Having a problem with the engine. It bogs down when you try for higher rpm, and sputters a lot. Already changed fuel and spark plugs. And fuel filters. Any ideas?

Gatoraider is very good on Gators do listen to his suggestions.

But we have one and it does some of what you are describing. Things that causes it with ours is normally being allowed to sit for a while (was over winter but we solved that by using it during the winter). Learned to use a gas stablizer and even gas adative to get it running back normal. I think gel may have formed in the carb while sitting but not sure. Our's would idle ok but when a load on it would spurt, jump and buck like a horse. ....

Ya. We tried draining and changing the fuel. Thing is, it gets used pretty well every day, so it shouldn't be the gas. I checked the fuses just in case, but the are all good. And all it does is it has a bit of a sputter when it idles, kind of like its choked a little, and when you try to go anywhere it bogs down if you have even the slightest load, but if you let it rest for a couple minutes it will move for bout 30 seconds. And then it won't hardly move at all. ....

Ling, they didn't make HPXs until 2004. It is very important to know exactly what model and year your Gator is before we can help you with a problem. ....

Anything is possible--just the other day I took my dump truck's carb off. When I took it apart I found loads of clay stuck in the accelerator pump diaphragm and coating the inside of the float chamber--and the insect that put it there (It was a new carb but had not been running for about 6 years). I have no clue how it made past the fuel filter or if it crawled inside a vacuum vent. ....

High RPM sluggishness is sometimes a symptom of a restricted exhaust system. Inspect the exhaust for any crimped pipes. ....
