My 03 JM-180 with 9 hours has what
I think is a leak (hole) in the
horizontal curved mounting pipe
below the muffler. Is this intenional
to let water out if it gets in the muffler?
Where can I get a replacement if it is not to be
there?
How much should it cost?
Thanks

By "horizontal curved" I assume you mean the 90 degree elbow that bolts directly to the exhaust manifold. Does it connect to a conventional vertical muffler, or to an under-the-tractor type exhaust?

Yes it is the curved pipe to the
vertical muffler. ....

I think the 2 cyl and 3 cyl use a similar elbow. I can speak for the 3 cylinder, in that your "hole" may likely be as a result of a bubble that formed during the casting process. The muffler tip should already be angled to prevent rain from entering anyway. With only 9 hours, it's definitely a warranty item. But it might be simpler just to have a welder close the hole.

The two cylinders have a small hole in the elbow to let condensation and rain water, etc. drain. If you plug it, I would be sure to keep a tin can on the exhaust pipe if you park outdoors... ....

Chip - it's not an open topped pipe. The picture CorvetteGuy linked to shows the conventional angled exhaust outlet. Only rain gettin in there would have to be blowing sideways.

Guys;
thanks for the info. I will see if the pipe
comes off easilly. I hope a through inspection
will let me know if the hole is man made or the
result of chineese dirt when they cast it in the
field.
I am an novice in stick welding and might attempt
a substandard looking weld job. Maybe JB Weld will
do a better job.
As I plan to shed the tractor, the only time rain
should get into the angled tipped muffler is when
I am using it. ....

Even if it was a straight tipped muffler, no rain will enter the pipe while the engine is running. The exiting exhaust pressure will prevent rain from entering the exhaust pipe of a running engine.

Rain is not what they put the hole in there for. It is there to let the condensation drip out that forms when the exhaust cools. Plug get and it will rust to pieces. ....

Your guess supports Chip's claim, but is curious in the face of the fact that the 3 cylinder in that same tractor has no "drain hole"

I have sold dozens of the little two cylinder farm pro and they all have this same hole exactly at the bottom of the elbow. We do get rain going horizontal from time to time here in Arkansas by the way (sometimes the wind goes in circles too!). The elbow comes with the engine as supplied to the tractor company and not the tractor companie's part.
I have not found these little vents to be much of a bother. ....

Of course...same tractor, different engine manufacturers. I forgot the two cylinders were Jiangdong. Mine were three cylinders from Yangdong. Makes sense now, thanks Chip.
