AMT 600 transmission question

Does anybody know what the sensor is on top of the transmission on my AMT 600? Previous owner snipped the wires. Runs and starts good, buddy told me it was a temp switch? Just wondering if I should try to reconnect it.

That should be neutral start safety switch. apparently has been bypassed. ....
