I was mowing today for the first time this year and managed to punch a hole in the sidewall on the right rear drive tire on my 4500. I hit a metal fence post that had fell over this past winter. The tires on this tractor are calcium loaded. Both rear tires are pretty worn and im sure they both should be replaced. What do you guys think it will cost to get 2 14.9-24 R-1's for this machine? I have never bought tractor tires before and in not sure what to expect. Thanks, MIKE

I tired cleaning the terminals as Paul suggested and noting. Still no lights or indicator lights when turning the key on.

I tested the battery with a tester in it has power (it read 12.8) I also tested to see if there was power going to the starter and there was.

I dont know if there is another main fuse somewhere that may have blown??

I also checked all the fuses in the box and they were all OK.

It is a good thing I had borrowed my brother in laws 2110 with a backhoe to do the digging or I would have gotten nothing done. I also cant mow the lawn because I run my finish mower off of the Deere. :(

I have a Woods RD 8400 and like the mower but would like some input regarding tire options. I have had flats on all of them so far and would like to find out if anyone knows of a manufacturer of a solid tire that is durable. I purchased a solid tire at tractor supply and it did not last a whole mowing session (5 acres worth)before the bearings in the hub self destructed.<br>
Any input would be appreciated.<br>

I have a Curtis soft cab on the 4500 that I purchased used. I really like it. It nice in the winter when clearing snow and in the summer you have shade. I leave the doors off most of the summer. I was thinking of a heater for winter but really just being out of the wind is enough on most occasions.

I have encounted an intermitant problem starting my 4500. On occasion when I go to start it, It will turn over fine and not start (like it is not getting fuel).I had posted this problem last fall and got some responses but was not able to narrow it down.<br>
Yesterday I went to use it and it would not start. I unplugged then reconnected the wiring harness that goes to the fuel pump and it started right away. <br>
Do you think I have an electrical problem with the fuel pump?? An input will appreciated.<br>

My tracor has 1420 hrs. It is a 1999 that I bought used last May. We built a new home last year and I purchased it to do landscaping, snow removal, and mowing. I dont have a mower yet, hoping to get one in the spring. I purchased an adjoining property this winter so now we will have 5 acres total to mow. I have done alot of work with it thus far and have alot more to do. Another reason I bought this unit was that it has a Curtis Soft Cab on it. We live on the top of the hill and the wind really blows in the winter. The cab makes a huge difference when clearing snow (I just use the loader to plow with). When I took the tractor out of the garage after I hooked the light up, it was dark and it was really nice to see when backing up!!
My tractor is in pretty good shape. I bought it from a New Holland Dealer. It appears it was neglected somewhat on minor items. I have replaced grease fittings, filters, etc. but it will work perfect for me. I hope to post some pictures soon. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks to everyone for yor input. I will be taking a look at it again this weekend. Im hoping mine has the extra place to "plug in" at the rear of the tractor.

I drained the fluid in the front differential of my 4500 yesterday. The owners manual states that it will require 2.1 gallons to be at the proper level. However, after refilling it with approx. 1.5 gallons, I noticed the fluid was nearly to the top of the case. I waited the recommeded 1 hr. before testing the level via the dip stick and the oil level is well over the "fill" mark on the dip stick as indicated in the owners manual.<br>
Could anyone clarify this for me? Should I add the recommended quantity or will it be over filled?<br>

I did an oil and filter(Oil & Air)change on my recently purchased (used) 4500 today. I also wanted to change the fuel filter as well.<br>
I could not get the locking collar loose to free the sediment bowl and filter. It appears that it has never been changed and is therefore very tight. I tried a strap wrench (used on oil filters) as well as slightly tapping the raised areas on the collar with a screw driver and hammer. There is not much room to work with the loader frame.<br>
Anyone have any suggestions or advice? It would be appreciated.<br>

I have had some problems restaring my JD4500 after it has benn running for a while. I was working it for a couple of hours this afternoon pulling a cultivator then a york rake. Stopped for about 5 min. and when i went to restart it it would not start. It turns over fine, battery is real strong. I waited for about 20 minutes then it started right up. Worked a while longer. Shut it down for about 45 minutes, the same thing happend. I also had this happen for a third time as well today. after it wouldnt start the third time, I turned the keyswitch to the left before turning it to the start position and it started right up. Anyone have any advice? Was it a coinsidence that it started after turning the key to the left?<br>
The worst part of the whole thing is it happend in front of my wife who really didnt want me to buy the tractor!!<br>
Any advice would be appreciated.<br>

Im preparing a new lawn around my new home. I york raked the rock I feel that I dont have an adequate bed for the seeding. Would a box scraper help to further loosen and the level the area? Or should I be looking at using a harrow type attachment? Any suggestions would help.<br>

Chief's diagnosis was correct. I sent the tractor back to the dealer and they changed oil, hyd filter and found the screen was clogged. Used it last night and it works great. Thanks for the advice Chief!!
