Could be the paint got in the threads a small amount, see if your can scratch around the nut with a knife and spray some WD40 on it.

I think your reasoning is sound, putting some high tech in old tech does not usually work out.

Couple things that can cause high heat build are :
Is the fluid contaminated?
Is the fluid the correct type and viscosity?
How is the hydo fluid level, could any filter or screen be clogged?

I happened upon this very interesting thread. Here we are 17 years later. Where are we today on thises issues?

The UK has had high speed Rail since the 1980's going over 150 mph then. US nada.

If we implement high speed rail it would be made in China as they have the best rail stuff.

Since I found out how deadly anitfreeze is to dogs I am super carreful with it a tablespoon spells dire consequences for them and since it seems sweet to the them they lick it.

Anyhow, many years ago in my careless dasy I would flush the system with water like you did. I now think that was a problem first in that systems do not like tap water. Second you cannot get all of that tap water out, just not possible.

Now I only drain as much as I can and add 50 50 mix to fill.

The overflow tank is just that when the engine runs and gets really hot and then you park it, the cooling stops and the engine can be hotter causing some relief to the overflow tank. Or other overheating situations. When the engine cools it can suck some collant back. The overflow tank is not a constant part of cooling circulation.

I would drain a small amount of coolant and add some 100 percent to up the protection level is not to your satisfaction. You must live someplace really cold :-)

While car Manufacturers would like to make you think your car is a status symbol, your sense of yourself, just about everything, there still may be some for whom a tractor is an ego boast. But it is just a tractor, so if it works, it works, a new hood style is not going to impress anyone ot at least almost everyone :-(

I bellieve the Shibaura D22 series were built in 1977 to 1978, Shibaura went out of business 13 years ago in 2008. So the Tractor you are looking at is over 40 years old.<br>

The good news is Tractors are not fashion statements like cars so having the latest is not that importantt with a tractor. <br>

Assume you are buying tractor to get stuff done.<br>
<br>
The question is how much sweat and time you want to put into repairing the tractor to keep it going. Versus using a trouble free tractor and very little to no repair time.<br>
<br>
The model you are looking at is so old a google search on it brings up very little, thankfully Len here can be of assistance finding parts.<br>
<br>
For my money I would rather buy a more popular brand like a Kubota B7500 that is half the age of what you are looking at has a dealer network and parts and has a solid reputation.<br>

At 18 years old it will not be problem free but will have way less problems than what you are looking at. <br>

Quick Hitches can be great but your mileage may vary baased on your circumstances.

If you are buying all your implements at the same time you can make sure they are all QH compatible.

If you you already have your stuff you need to check that the width is less than 27 3/16 inches and for compact tractors they are 7/8 inch Cat I.

The top link can be an issue also often there can be support braces in the way or the top link is too narrow for the hook.

But QH is really great when you have some heavy unweildly implement to attach, cannot be beat.

I think it is a combination of things.

10 to 20 years ago Baby Boomers were getting older but not too old and they were buying toys to help them as they aged.

Some had horses and stalls that could use a tractor in tight quarters, where other 3ph ballast would be too much in the way.

Others read all the ballast ideas and jumped in. Sounds like you.

Now the Baby Boomers are too old for all that stuff so you do not hear about it. But you still need ballast but it is just not a talking point.

Murf saw you made comment on incomplete combustion on another thread and so when is it a problem? My thinking is that soot is as you say incomplete Combustion, but when and engine is cold briefly soot will be emitted as it starts leaving a stain on near by paint, but then not as it warms up. To me this is not a problem.<br>

But my tractor is over ten years old and I have no problems with how it runs. But I have black soot stains where the exhaust blows near some of the frame. My friend who owns a tractor said hey whats that? Soot.<br>

I thought a little bit of soot stains was normal. It does not smoke while running.<br>
