Thanks for all the above commentary. I guess I will buy a tank, I just won't expect it to fill the rear tire or suggest it again. The only time I tried it was when the tire flatted 2Ą to a valve stem leak, and there was probably a lot of air left in that tire. It was also an incredibly slow leak. Took days to drop enough psi to flat, and never broke the bead loose. I only have 10acres and my generator is on a scooter cart with 3x8" wheels, so if I can't jack it, I could always lug the generator and a compressor anywhere on my property I'd have the tractor. But even with wheels, that'd be a lot worse than carrying a little 10gallon tank would have been! Are the rims on my turf tires strong enough that I could pad a farm jack with a towel and place it against the top of the rim's inside? Or would I wind up with an oval wheel? I honestly have no clue how thick that rim is.

Hey Dave,
How far are you from Burlington area, VT. We both a NH dealer and a Kubota dealer. The Kubota dealer, Gary at Essex Rental, usually offers great prices, and if you're not too far, has a great service dept too. No personal experience with Hertz/First Choice, the NH dealer, but when Brian there couldn't get me my Del Morino tiller in less than 3 weeks, he tracked one down at another local dealer, checked their price which was within $25 of his, and sent me there. Gotta respect that!

PS) Don't buy on specs. Look, touch, drive, and take service access into account. You can compare reasonable prices for Kubotas at Steve Carver's site.

In Kubota's liturature they list Gross and Net engine Horsepower. These seem to differ by only 1 to 2 HP and might account for the difference. I honestly don't know if my B2710 has 27 Gross or 27 Net engine HP, but it only has 20 at the PTO. I think the 7500 has 16 or 18 at the PTO, but that will vary some between Hydro and Gear drives, gears being more efficient than a viscous coupling.

Somebody up here in Vermont told me he added a few ounces on Marvel Mystery oil to his diesel fuel, to replace the lubricants it seems the fuel companies have already replaced. Since I haven't found any anti-gels that stated they contain fuel pump lubricants, and hadn't read the above posts before today, I'm curious to know if this stuff is worth adding. I've been doing it, but given how thin it is, maybe it's doing more harm than good. Anyone know? I've also just been going to the Sunoco station down the street and buying whatever diesel they sell. Will the different stations have different fuels (#1 or #2), or will they all be #1 because it's cold up here? Maybe I should have paid more attention in chemisty class, but I don't recall anything this practical ever being covered.

Wheel weights seem like a great solution to me too, but I don't know if they're available for a B2710 with turf tires. Guess a call to my dealer is in order.

One last thing Glen, if you do get the blower, go to home depot or someplace that sells lexane or plexiglass, and get a piece that will cover your ROPS. Drill some holes in it and tie it to the ROPS. Otherwise your going to look like a snowman after 5 minutes.

You shouldn't need a wrench Steer Hog, so I'll bet you most dealers will let you take a deck off and put it on. But maybe not until the snow melts and it's not such a messy job to get under the tractor. Once you settle on one or two models, you might also ask the dealers to drive them out to your property so you can see how it handles. This is a big purchase, you'll be surprised what the dealers are willing to do. Also, just from curiosity, does anyone know what a Steiner 525 costs. They have 4wd, an articulated frame, a 23.5hp kubota diesel engine, and front mount mowers and snow thrower. Granted you're locked into Steiner implements, but that little machine looks like a really cool toy, and I'll bet it turns tighter than a Boomer with super steer.

Is my math wrong? I get about a 325,000 gallon pond, for a quarter acre at 4 foot deep pond. 1 cubic foot equalling 7.48 gallons. If you make this 8 feet deep, you'd double that.

Is that what topsoil is worth delivered, or can we sell it to an excavator to offset the cost of the work? Since I'm going to have this type of job done this summer, your numbers are reasuring to me.

Good point. Because our current pond's inflow silted in, and the dam out was removed, we do get the August mud flat. Hoping to fix that!

Hey Chris,

One thing I forgot to mention. The downside to my Kubota is getting on and off. I always snag my shorts in the summer or my coat in the winter on the 3pt hitch or 4wd levers on the right, or the mid pto lever on the left. It's never the FEL lever like I thought it would be when I bought it.
I'm only 5'9", 150lbs, so if you're a big guy and going to be climbing on and off a bunch, you'll want to consider this. I'm told the New Holland Boomers have the best ergonomics of any of the compact tractors.

I bought the 62 inch model from my kubota dealer. He also had a Meteor and a LuckNow. These were nicer. I paid 1365 for it. I needed it to clear a 150' path to my well which is going to be drilled down from 705' to about 1100' next week. On my B2710, it had no trouble moving 18" of settled Vermont snow. It was 24 inches a week ago and we haven't had any thaws.
If I hadn't tied lexane to the ROPS, it would also be easy to adjust the manual shute, now it's a reach around the plexiglass unless I take off the seatbelt, but it still turns easier than any other model I tried. These are worth looking at for anyone interested.

We had somebody turn over our garden here in VT twice a year for a couple of years. The Garden is about 60'x120', and Wayne went over it twice. He only charged us $45-50 and a beer, so I can't tell you you're going to earn back your tiller any time soon.
I bought a Del Morino 54" tiller last year. It's a tank, tills to 7". I figure it'll pay for itself in only 10-12 years. Still, I love having it, and can turn over the garden more often. Now we don't weed, we just till between the rows. The ultimate lazy man's weed wacker.

Have you ever seen the "BiSpeed Turn" option on Kubota's B2100 and 2400 tractors. It was supposed to compensate for the difference in tracking radius between the front and rear wheels. I loved the idea until two dealers told me it was a service intensive option, to put it nicely. I wonder if New Holland's pivoting front axle compensates for the mismatch. I don't have any experience with it as I have a kubota, but I'd be interested to know. With an open differential in front and back, if the outside wheel tracks are the same length in a turn, you probably wouldn't ever need the 2WD option.

Hi everyone,<br>I have a B2710 with turf tires, and the lift links on the 3pt hitch only lower to 12 inches. I just bought a rear snow blower, and have to use the "B" holes in the lift links, which Kubota recommends I use only for lighter implements, to hook it up. <br> I notice that if I fully lengthen the connector that goes from the right lifter arm to the check valve, my hitch still doesn't start to rise until the position lever is at 3 or 4. It rises until the stop on the left arm hits the metal, but doesn't trigger the relief valve. <br> I think that the solution is to remove the snap rings, and rotate the lift arms down 2 or 3 splines on their shaft. I could rotate them more before the arms hit the PTO shield, since right now they only go down to a couple of degrees below horizontal. This would lower the 3pt hitch, and also signal the position control to start lifting at 1 or 2.<br> Has anyone else had this problem with a B2710, or have any advice about this? Any input would be appreciated as I'm hesitant to mess with the factory setup.<br>Thanks,<br>Todd

Has anyone heard of JRW snow blowers? My choices for my B2710 are a JRW, a Meteor, or a LuckNow. All are 60" and within $200 of each other. The JRW has the longest discharge chute, which seems like a disadvantage, but also seems to be put together the best.<br>Any comments.
