Have recently purchased a JD 790..if I were to put a rear 3 pt hitch type snow blower on same...what is the widest width I can use without overloading the tractor pto?? 60 inch or 72 inch???

That's going to depend some on how deep the snow is, how heavy it is, and how fast you go. I've got a 60"JRW on my B2710 which only puts 20hp to the pto vs your 25, and it does fine. But I'll go very slowly with heavy snow. Check your manual, JD probably lists the maximum implement size. I use a 5' blower with 24 PTO HP. The engine doesn't lug going through blower deck high snow in low range, unless it’s a packed snow bank. However, the fan doesn't clear snow quite fast enough off the auger. Periodically I have to stop and wait for some snow to clear, or I can lift the blower to take some off the top of the mount the auger is pushing. Of course, the snow would clear if I went slower, but I don't have that option with my gear tractor (My 1710 has four reverses, and I think the low range is slower than a 790). A blower with a larger fan would clear more snow but also would take more HP. However, it's not much of a problem, and I think my 5' blower is about right for a 1710. I suspect that a 6' blower would be a bit much for a 790 in deep snow. ....

I have a 790 and use a 5' Meteor, by ForageKing, 3PH snowblower. Covers the (turf) tire width perfectly. ....

One last thing Glen, if you do get the blower, go to home depot or someplace that sells lexane or plexiglass, and get a piece that will cover your ROPS. Drill some holes in it and tie it to the ROPS. Otherwise your going to look like a snowman after 5 minutes. ....

Yes, my wife did call me a snowman yesterday. It doesn't happen too often, but the wind was just right (in the wrong direction) yesterday. 'Snowman', I can live with, but stinging, watering eyes, frozen cheeks, snow caked behind eye glasses etc. means that I really can't see what I'm doing and have to stop sometimes. That's probably a safety issue I should correct. ....
