I feel bad for everyone. I've owned a 770 fwd with several accessories for over 5 years with zero problems. I mow lawns with no scuffing even when the wheel is cramped around hard. No grinding gear problems no nothing. I am John Deere through and true. I will find it hard to believe if JD doesn't fix every problem. I would think they would consider it morally and legally the wise thing to do especially considering the price we pay for these tractors. Although I don't own a 4000 series myself I would be right beside you if I had these same proplems. Keep pounding away at them. JD owes it to each one of you. After all we keep them in business. I've been an engineer for over 18 years and there is one thing I know, there is always a way to correct an engineering problem. In your case if it means a new front axle design and installation so be it. They can engineer a new design very easily. It may not be cheap for them, but it is their problem...maybe they should of done a little more design testing on this one. Please don't settle for your tractor as is. It may make it diffcult for new owners in the future if JD gets away with it. Unfortunately your the ones that have to fight the battle this time. Hang in there.

I have a 4200 and the front axle does the same thing when I remove the plug to check the level after having ran it. I also have wondered if there is a vent somewhere. I know that leaking seals can be caused by a plugged vent but my tractor is only a few months old and it has done it from the start. I thought the vent my have a check valve in it that requires a certain pressure buildup before it releases to keep foreign material from entering. I have seen instances where water/sludge has entered the axle of a tractor through the vent and ruined the bearings so maybe its not a bad thing to have some pressure.<br>Randy

Interesting reading all of this oil filter stuff. I certainly don't know all there is to know on this topic but I did work as an engineer in research and development at the leading high technology filtration company for nearly a decade. My opinion (for too many reasons to get into here, and for what it's worth) is to use the filter recommended by the engine manufacturer.

What he saw was a Yardman Tractor with a Kwik-Way Loader and Backhoe. Kwik-Way makes loaders and backhoes for just about all makes of garden tractors and small Compacts. <br>They do not have a site on the web, but can be reached at 1-800-843-3720.<br>I am not a rep for Kwik-Way, just looked into them a while back.

Without live or independent pto the blower will stop when the tractor stops moving. This will in many instances plug the blower because it won't have a chance to clear the snow out of the fan. I would strongly recommend live or ,even better, independent PTO.

The '55 series were Hydro models while the '70 series were gear drive. The '70 series were also heavier tractors with larger tires and larger loaders/backhoes. One other difference, the '70 series had separate hydraulic pumps for steering and implements. I think the '55 series was more a mowing/grounds care machine while the '70 series was more aimed more at industrial use. They were both replaced by the 4000 series.

Would you buy a used car after 100 different people had driven it? Be very, very careful when buying from a rental store. They rent to anyone, and each and everyone will treat that piece of equipment differently and especialy when they do not own it!!! Keep both eyes open or at least have a pre-sale inspection done on it.

I'm looking at a used 8' tandem disk, front row slotted, back row round, it's an older J.D. model with tires and hydraulics, looks to be in good shape, disks are about 70-80% of new, they want $600, is that a good price? Thanks.<br>Randy<br>

I have built a few buckets for the back of tractors and have only once used it to move snow. Worked ok, but the front blade that I have for my tractor works much better, same goes for using a rear blade. i think it is too high the 790 is a 30 hp engine on a 20 hp tractor . it only weights 2100 lbs . the weight cas mean alot when you are pushing snow or skiding fire wood. i just bought a 7360 cub cadet and real like it however i did look at the 790 and got a price of 11900 for the tractor,and loader . i would look around some more

Pick the one you want, but.....your right about easy on easy off. I have a <br>770 fwd with a loader, mower deck, and a few other attachments and if you are<br>like me the loader goes on and off alot. Especailly in the summer when the <br>mower deck is on and I need to do a quick landscaping job. There is a 100 <br>jobs in the summer for the loader but I perfer not mow with it on. I can<br>put it on or take it off in less than a minute. My father is over 60 years<br>old and doesn't think twice about it either, thats how easy it is. Sorry,<br>no help with the dealers.<br>Randy
