Thank you for trying to give this thread a fresh start, but I prefer bringing it to a friendly end. As I stated in an earlier post, I will respectively decline to go further with this subject. It started out looking like a reasonable question, but was actually bait to start a grey market bashing frenzy.

If the main authors of this thread were to re-read it all, I suspect we would all no doubt want to rebut points made by others. I certainly do, but to what end? To say it all again in a different fashion will likely bring us back to the same point.

It's your call, but that is my suggestion.

By the way, if this forum prefers not to be friendly to the grey market dealers or owners, just let us know. There are other places to go. I suspect though, that most members are actually friendly and accepting of us and we are only dealing with a vocal minority with a burr under their saddle.

Robert, the tractor was made in the late 80's, maybe even up to 1990. The parts book will work fine, the pictures show the parts, and the numbers are just the same as ours. Just the descriptions are in Japanese. The parts books have very good exploded views which help you see how best to take the unit apart. They are fairly simple to work on. Ernie up in Mollola, Oregon has one he is parting out, although I do not know if he would sell just one gear. I may have sent you his email address already?

knoxville, I think you are pretty close on the HP issue, but the gap between engine and PTO can get bigger on the larger units. A Yanmar FX28D is about 28 PTO and most estimate the engine at 32-33. I think Len posted once that multiplying the first 2 numbers by 1.2 gives you a close figure. I like that number and think he is right.

Doc, these tractors come from China? Since when? Mark, the fact that half my buyers are new buyers is an indicting statement of liability? Then you go on to say my customers are ignorant as well. Sorry guys, I can't buy that.

Guys, you have my dander up. I come to this board to help people that have questions about tractors. It appears this thread has turned into a gray market bashing frenzy by a couple of you guys.

I am trying to add some balance and perspective, but I find myself instead wanting to rebut the improper information being spewed here. It is clear though that any reasoning on my part will just get twisted around in an attempt to make me look like a greedy uncaring unethical dealer. There really is no reason to waste the time to reply.

Doc and Mark, I am not saying that every point you make is incorrect. Poor "dealers" out there warrant some of your remarks. I would ask though that you not paint us all with the same brush.

The F-5, F-6, and F-7 are all sister models sharing many of the same parts, but differing in HP. They are somewhat unique and very few parts are common to the older Yanmars. Most engine parts will be available in the US, as well as a lot of the engine and chassis electrical, except for the electronic 3-point and tilt controls. That is Japan only. Seals, bearings, hoses, filters, etc are all common. Most other parts will be Japan only. The dealer you bought the tractor from should be able to help you with this. Neat little tractor, best of luck.

Branson grew about 300% last year, and is already on target for phenominal growth this year. The distributor support is second to none. As to whether to go with Century or Branson, I'd go with the best local dealer.

Any Branson dealer worth his salt will know at least a little about the other Korean lines. TYM/Mahindra is a good tractor, fairly equivalent to the Branson/Century and the Kioti. I sell Branson's, but can't throw rocks at the other guys either.

Might be good to check the hydraulic screen, if it is partially clogged the cold fluid will have a harder time getting through to the pump. At the same time replace the fluid with new hy-trans (JD303 compatable universal hy-trans will do). If it is still slow, just be patient with it. If it is slow in the warm months, we have different issues to explore.

BeeFarmer, I've sure seen a lot of junk tillers for sale, especially on ebay. Most are what we would call parts tillers. On every load we get from Japan, we can almost count on them slipping in one or two rough tillers, but there are usually about a half dozen that look new. The rest are usually somewhere from good to very good. We import mostly F-series late model stuff so it makes sense that ours may be a little nicer than the dealers that focus on the older models. Due to shipping costs, purchasing tillers from a distance doesn't make sense though, so local shopping is a must.

I'll give the spray arc a try. I have a Miller 210 that I use co2/argon with, but I think it is 75% co2. I have an argon bottle for aluminum, so we will hook that up. Thanks for the info.

Pushing the limit....I hauled a Komatsu D31 (16K lbs) on my triple axle gooseneck and was right at 29,000 lbs GC. Seemed to do fine on the flats, and wasn't overloaded on any axle, but even with all the axles braking I wouldn't have wanted to make a panic stop. I think mine is rated at 19,500 GCWR and that is about right. If I keep it under 20k it runs cool and strong and stops well. Much over that and everything is maxed out. Not a smart thing to do...

Greg, I sold nearly a hundred 4x4 grey market Yanmars last year and have had no such problems. Most of them were the newer YM's and F-series. I do buy only real nice stuff from Japan, so maybe I have just been lucky so far. I have had a number of the front ends apart fixing seals and I can agree with your assessment concerning the needle bearings. If they get loose in there, it could be bad news.

Cletus, I have pulled some 3 foot diameter Oak and Walnut trres out with a baby excavator. I had a Kobelco 007, about 1700lbs with an 8hp diesel. It would dig about 4' deep. So we are talking about a small unit. It would take several hours to dig them out. More of a sport with a unit this size, yet it would have taken days with a shovel and pick. I would dig around the tree, then cut through the larger roots with an axe or chainsaw, then dig some more and so on. On a 12" Apricot tree, it took about 15 minutes. So from the perspective of pick and shovel, it will do fantastic. From the perspective of a 40HP CUT with hoe, it will be slow.

A rule of thumb we use for hardwood is that it dries one inch a year. If you take a 12" round and split it once, it will dry in 3 years (6" thick and drying from both sides). Split it twice and it will dry faster. We can actually beat that rate a bit as we get months of 90 degree and hotter (115 sometimes) heat with low humidity, so we can dry oak or almond in one season. Very dry wood burns real clean.

I sell grey market Yanmars and Iseki's and new Bransons ( I say this so you know I am not biased toward Kubota), but to be fair I will say that many of the large orchardist around here use the big Kubota's to run 10 to 14' flail mowers. They put on over 500 hrs a year and are quite proud of them. They seem to hold up well and have good resale value even with high hours.

Iseki's are great tractors. We sell them, along with Yanmars. The Yanmars tend to be a little more popular, but honestly I think the Iseki's are just as good. You will want a 4wd becuase of your terrain. One problem is that most if not all gray market tractors do not have roll over protection. If you have steep hils, this is a real concern. Whatever brand you buy, make sure you find a good honets dealer that will give you service after the sale.

rdunstan's idea is similar to what is used in our area, except we make it fit right on the loader arms instead of the bucket. When you are cleaing prunings off of hundreds of acres of Walnut orchards, this is what is used. Scores of farmers clearing thousands of acres of prunings know what works, at least in this application. I have built a smaller one for CUT use. It is simple and works well. It is best on flat surfaces as previously stated. They aren't made for clearing undergrowth or similar tasks.

Koyker does not have a kit for it. You probably will have to have the mounts fabricated. We run into this on quite a few Iseki models. It is a bit of an art get the geometry just right. Dave
