I have an L3000DT with position control. I seem to get good control over movement of the 3ph in the downward direction (i can lower it incrementaly with incremental position lever movements), but not as good in the up direction. Once the 3ph has been lowered to a certain position I have to move the position lever quite a ways in the opposite direction before it starts to raise. it's basically a trial & error process to find the point the implement will start to raise again. Makes it difficult to control for box blade work. Is this pretty much normal? My B7100D had finer control although it had a slightly different system.<br>

Right now, i'm leaning towards the sending unit/guage because the thermostat isn't supposed to open til 175 deg & i didn't get the temp up that high. I'm going to do some more testing to see if i get similar results & to see if i can get the temp up higher. It's supposed to be in the mid-70's tomorrow & the next day so that'll help.

My neighbor (he's in his seventies) got knocked off his tractor by a limb while bushhogging. Lucky for him he got caught on the hitch frame of the bush hog & was dragged on the ground beside the bush hog & didn't get run over by it or the tractor. The tractor drug him about 100' until it ran into the barbed wire pasture fence he was mowing parallel to & was stopped by a corner post. Then it just spun it's wheels til we found him shortly thereafter. He ended up with a dislocated shoulder & a few bruises, but it could have been a lot worse. Where the accident occurred was out of sight from his house & ours too. Luckily we had something to do in that area that day & found him on the ground with the tractor still running.

I'm looking to get a small lawn roller & was wondering if there are any recommendations for a polyethylene vs. steel roller. Here in south Texas the ground has a lot of clay (called gumbo) that sticks to everything when wet & is like stone when dry.

I've got a L3000DT with R1's set at their narrowest position (40" width from center to center of the rear tires). I'm intested in setting the wheels wider. According to my manual there are 4 positions for the rear wheels. I'd like to go to the one that would put them at 47". For this position it looks like the disks would remain in their current postion & the rims would have to be reversed so I guess I would have to switch the tires/rims from one side to the other. Anyone have an suggestions or insight on doing this??<br>

Also, has anyone reversed the front wheels to get a wider stance? My manual says "Do not turn front discs to obtain wider tread". Is this Kubota's way of telling me not to do this? If so, anyone know why? I've seen them reversed on other tractors like mine.

Did it work OK after you replaced the battery & then started acting up again or did the new battery not really change how it's acting? As the others have mentioned it sounds like it may be the battery or something draining it. Does the log meter still work OK when it runs (i.e. still runs up the hrs. as the tractor operates)?

I have 2 parcels of land that I take care of with different machines

1) How many Acres? 9 acres of pasture & 1 acre yard

2) What Tractor do you have? Kubota L3000DT for the pasture & Deere L120 for the yard

3) Mower Width Belly or 3PH? Kubota has 3ph & 5' cutter, Deere has 48" mower

4) Are You happy with it? Yes for both although I've had some minor breakage on the Deere after only 1 season. More than I had on the Craftsman I used to have for 10 yr!

my house is high enough that adding material to the low spots wouldn't matter. I was just trying to see if there was an easier way of taking care of my crawdad buddies.

The suggestion to see if the county would give me their byproduct material is something i'll need to look into. If that worked out it would be a match made in heaven. Another guy i talked to said to see if the swimming pool companies would dump their dirt at my place instead of wherever they go now.

When i was looking for a tractor i looked at the big 3 as well as some others including Mahindra. The Mahindra dealer was closest and the most expensive! I didn't have any experience with them nor knew anyone that did. I did operate one for a short period & it seemed to perform fine. I just couldn't see paying more than i would for one of the better known brands. The dealer seems to be doing fine in a small town. He's moving to a new, larger facility soon so evidently he's selling them pretty well.

Does your owners manual have any info? It should tell you to hold the key in the glow plug position for a period of time (colder it is the longer you should pre-warm). If it doesn't start, then repeat. Usually 10-15 sec would work on my older tractor, but my new one only requires 2-3 sec if the temp is >0 Deg. Also, the new one has a panel indicator to show the glow plug circuit is energized. The older tractor doesn't show anything.

i think you guys are right cause i remember 'locking' the 3PH in the up position as i was messing with the control knob to see what it would do. Duh!! It didn't occur to me that this was the locked position! Thanx, now i can sleep tonite...

I ran into a similar situation on Ebay when i was looking for a computer. There were several sellers that offered a particular model laptop at a noticeably lower price than others. The ad for the seller i contacted indicated she was in the US, but after emailing for more info i found that the computer had to be shipped from overseas (which was included in the price, but not stated in the ad). This lady had lots of good feedback, but something just did not ring true so i steered clear of the deal. As was already stated, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. It's worth it to me to have a little peace of mind when parting with my moola, even if i have to pass up a 'good' deal.

Well, today i finalized a deal on a Kubota 3000DT w/ box blade, cutter & FEL. Like many others I bounced around different tractors and different models. All things considerd this tractor and this dealer came out to be the best for me. The price wasn't the cheapest of the bids i got, but the dealer's service capability, and some 'perks' they were offering (e.g. training, free service pickup/delivery) more than made up the diff from the low bid. <br>

I'll second Chief's advice. I work around high pressure/temperature steam systems & it's easy to get complacent with your surroundings. Just because it works now doesn't mean it will continue to do so safely. Just be careful with what you're doing. This is one of those things that could reach out & touch ya when ya least expect it....

Art, excellent comment on checking out the dealer. I've seen numerous posts where things either turned out good or bad depending on the dealer. I was spending all my time checking out tractors, features, etc. , but the light just came on that I probably also need to check out the dealers I'm talking to. Any suggestions on how to check out a dealer, especially if you don't know someone that's dealt with them (e.g. the dealer is some distance from where you live)??

i've seen a lot of posts on this topic & i think at least 1 person that decided not to get a 790 because the lift capacity was too low. This model of JD was one of the ones I was seriously looking at buying. I'm still trying to figure out if the low lift capacity will unnecessarily limit me in my use of the tractor. Even though I've operated a small tractor for years it came equipped a certain way & that's the way it still is. Now that i'm looking into a new tractor i've got to make decisions on implements too. I'll need a 5' cutter and a 5' box blade. the cutter will be used on 10 acres of wooded pasture that has some type of weed that grows to 3' & higher and has a stringy stalk when alive. Late in the yr when these die they turn brown & get more brittle (easier to cut), but i can't always wait for this to happen because once the winter rains come i won't be able to get back into the pasture until spring when they dry out again. For this reason I was looking at getting a medium cutter which may push the limit of the 790. Also, i don't want to limit myself later on if i decide to add other attachments. I'd be interested to hear of anyones experience with these tractors, especially if they've found themselves limited in any way because of the lift capacity. <br>
