I talked with my dealer today about doing the 50 hr. service. He said the hydraulic fluid & filter wouldn't be changed unless it needed it (discolored, had debris, etc.). Is this normal for the 50 hr. service? I thought the hydraulic fluid would be changed regardless.<br>

Brokenarrow: my family and I send our condolences. I understand what you're feeling and what you'll have to deal with. The only thing i can add to the good advice you've already gotten is to not beat yourself up too bad. You'll have a tendency to 'blame' yourself for something...you coulda done this, you could said that, etc. It's natural to feel some guilt but usually without merit. It'll just be one of the many things that run thru your mind. Enjoy the memories of your time together. Once again, the thoughts of myself and my family are with you.

I use an old tool belt. It has a hole on the backside at the top where a belt would normally go. On my tractor there's a hole on the right side of the FEL frame that faces rearward...a match made in heaven. The toolbelt is not too big but there's room for channel locks, wd40, a screwdriver & other things nice to have along for the ride. Now I just need to figure out a drink holder.

I've had similar problems in the past. When i tryed to backup i would get a message saying the page couldn't be displayed & i'd have to refresh. Can't remember the exact wording. I've also had this happen on another site. I didn't do anything in particular & it 'fixed' itself. Maybe it has something to do with the website. Dunno, but maybe some patience will and the little elves will fix your too. Good luck

I too got a Modern Manufacturing mower when i bought my tractor... and i didn't get a manual either. I never thought to ask cause there ain't much to the mower. Maybe I'll ask the dealer the next time i'm up in Houston. Good luck with your tractor.

I wouldn't go back. I don't have any patience for that sort of thing. Back when i was shopping for a tractor I stopped into the local JD dealer. I walked around outside for 10-15 min. looking at the inventory, then went inside. There's was a guy at the parts counter & no one else in sight. He came out & asked me if he could help. I told him I was interested in getting a price on a 790 w/fel, box blade & field mower. He went down a hallway & was gone for about 10 minutes. When he came out he had a scrap piece of paper with a price on it. "Here ya go" & he went back behind the counter. Ooookkaaaay. I threw it in the trash on the way out. I had other 'take it or leave it' experiences at other dealers. One of the major reasons I bought the tractor I did was because of the time the dealer gave me to explain things & answer questions. I want to know the dealer is interested in my purchase, especially when it comes time for maintenance.

Is the plastic protective cover that extends from the pto to the gearbox on a field mower (or any other attachment for that matter) supposed to rotate? Mine mounts to 2 nylon rings on either end of the actual shaft that are free to spin on the shaft. There's a small chain on the end closest to the tractor. Is this chain just to keep the shaft lifted when not in use or is it to be connected to something to prevent the plastic shaft cover from turning?<br>

thanx for the info guys. I knew i'd learn something. Good points on the tire rating and where to load the pallet on the trailer. One thought that occurred to me is to throw some of the sod in the back of the pickup to help reduce the weight on the trailer. We just got a bunch of rain & supposed to get more so i'll wait for a bit before i get the sod. Again, thanx for the help.

yes plugger, i'm still alive and i'm still as ignorant about my tractors temperature guage response as i was before. i haven't had much opportunity to use my tractor because of the s***** weather we've had in south texas. It's rained every week or every other week for months! I know, i need some cheese with that whine. Anyway, hopefully i'll be able to get into my pastures soon & put the tractor to work & then i'll see what the temp guage does. Until then, i watch it rain (thunderstorms forcast for Sat)

As long as we're talking about vertical exhausts....I've got one on a 3000DT that can't be lowered simply by re-orienting it to the exhaust manifold. Anyone know what options (if any) are out there to make it horizontal??

As a new owner I suggest you read your manual. It should discuss the diff lock feature. An important thing to note when using this is that you won't have steering control as both rear wheels are driving with no slip.

Plugger, i posted what i found out on the original thread if you want to read details. The short story is i'm still not sure what's going on. I used one of those infrared temperature readers to monitor temps. & couln't get the engine temp up to the 175 deg thermostat with the tractor just sitting & on fast idle. There was a 40-50 deg diff in temp from the thermostat inlet to outlet which tells me it's not opening, but the inlet temp never got above 170 deg, below the setting, so that's expected. It's still pretty cool down here so i figured i try again once the weather warms up. Also, i'll be able to run the cutter so that will put a good load on the tractor & give me a better idea. It definitely doesn't warm up & go onto the thermostat like a car does, but from what others say, that is normal. I have seen where it will actually cool off if i let it sit at slow idle after working it a little. I know this ain't much help. Maybe you can talk to your dealer & let me (us) know what he says about it. Mine claims it's normal for my tractor.

I had a B7100D & like Art said it could be mounted horizontally or vertically as the flange between the exhaust stack and manifold was square. I rotated mine down to avoid hitting tree branches & don't really remember breathing fumes all that much.
