In my experience the acid on the top of the battery problem is not normally just boil off. There is a vent in the case that can be plugged but it should vent at the edge to the bottom.
Acid leaking is often the seal at the posts. Underneath the cap is a plastic seal(normally epoxi) that seals the post to the case. My guess is that NH is supplying cheap batteries and the supplier has a poor sealing system.

I am not sure I like the location as it takes a lot of pounding. The valve regulated lead acid batteries like treeman put in are a good solution. They will retain a charge better and are less suseptable to damage with a deep discharge.

If I was not able to get the Optima battery mounted in the original location, it was going to be mounted behind the seat where the toolbox is now.

Hi all, my b8200 will not run after it sets for an hour or so. I can bleed the lines repeatedly and get it to start. Runs great after that. If I shut it down and try a restart after a couple minutes, no problem. If I let it set for a while ( maybe an hour or more ) it will sputter and stall with lots of greyish smoke. Seems like bleeding the lines ( a couple times ) will get it to run but I can't figure how air could be getting into the lines, especially because it runs great once it gets there. My thinking is if air is getting into the lines somehow, wouldn't it also get in the lines while it's running and run poorly always ?

I've got those rice field tires that tear up the lawn pretty badly. Any idea what size turf tires I should get? What would I expect to pay? I do use this tractor to engage dirt in my field. Is there a compromise between turf tires and rice tires that would work in the field but still not goof up my lawn? Thanks

I've been searching for a rear tiller for my 4wd B6200 for several weeks now. I almost bought a new Howard last week, but backed off for financial reasons. Low and behold, a used Howard w/slip clutch appears in classifieds and it looks good. My concern is that's it's 48". Is that too big? According to the Howard manual, this unit is made for the 5100,6100,7100,and it's rated within the hp range of the tractor, so I assume it will work. However, I've had people tell me that I should stick to 38" or 42". I need opinions about the 48".<br>

Does anyone have knowledge of Speedex tractors? I am looking at a one year old Speedex tractor loader with 20 HP Briggs & Stratton engine with 48" belly mower. I would like to know about the company, reliability of tractor, any information would be helpful. Thanks, Paul in NH.

Sounds about right depending on the condition. I just got the same tractor with bushhog front loader, 650 hours and also bought a bushhog mower for $6600. Warranty would make a difference too, I dickered for a 6-month 50/50 warranty with this dealer. By the way, I love this little machine!!

If it is anything like the hoe on the BX, and I think it is, it will do pretty well.

I just got done digging a series of holes with my BX in soil so hard that the bottom of the holes were grooved by the bucket teeth when I got done. It was slow going sometimes but it worked.

There is absolutely no way I could have done the same work with manual tools or a post hole digger. No way.

Back to the original question..... all the 3.2 hours indicate is that the key was turned, not necessarily that the engine was running.

If someone in the showroom had turned the key and no one noticed it for awhile that would account for the hours.

To confirm Cutters suspicion..... my bucket is shifted very slightly to the right (as you see it from the tractor seat) on all the welds.

My cousin has offered to let me purchase a John Deere 261 grooming mower for $500.00. It is in poor shape needs tires, blades and a good general clean up. The deck seems to be solid with only surface rust. I haven't been into the gear box or checked out the belt yet. Is this a good purchase and has anyone had any experience with this attachment?

I think they are standardized around something called the dash size.

A #6 dash flat face o-ring seal fitting has 13/16-16 threads. Sizes are different for o-ring bosses and four bolt flange connectors.

I've got go for annual volunteer fire fighter qualification right now. I'm not sure I have enough info to answer your question but maybe more later.

Comparing weights as Murf described is about the only practical method for typical owners. Rigging up a knife-edge balance isn't actually that hard but the increase in accuracy probably doesn't buy much. The cutters should be suspended from the balance in the same plane though.

Comparing weight is a static method and it isn't sensitive to how weight is distributed across a cutter. Parts can weigh the same but be out of balance in operation unless weights are distributed similarly. Dynamic balancing solves this issue but fewer owners would have the equipment and I'm not sure it's a practical consideration anyway. It is probably worth knowing that grinding a lot from one place can improve the static balance but may do little for the dynamic balance.

I used to own a 99 B7300 and traded it in for a B2410. I live in the foothills in NC and found that the B7300 was too anemic for even mowing in hilly conditions. If you are a flatlander then it is a fine machine. It is a bit of a workout with no power steering and a rather weak hydraulic system. I got the B2410 as it gave me an extra 8hp, much improved hydraulics and power steering in a tractor that is practically the same size. I have had the B2410 with a loader for over 2 years and have about 300 hrs without a hitch. It mows up hill while in high range with a 60" belly mower without even complaining. The 7300 needed to be shifted into Low range for all but the shallowest hills or it would bog tremendously. I can only imagine how hard it would be to steer with a bucket full of soil. Making a wrong decision on a tractor is a costly mistake especially if you are using it for your own purposes and not for hire! Good luck and smart shopping ;)

I am answering my own question here, at least in Oregon. I forgot that I have an Oregon publication of forest protection laws. It says that during fire season
"All engines must be equipped with a spark arrestor. Exceptions are allowed for fully turbo-charged engines, for engines of 50 cubic inch displacement or smaller, for certain trucks and for pumps used exlusively to fight fire."

I have the 4.8 ltr, and I would opt for at least the 5.3 or 6.0 for much towing. The little motor will do it but it seem a little sluggish. look into a diesel for max towing power!

Spoke to the dealer yesterday and he sez that A-plan pricing is available for everything that has a serial number. Tractors, FELs, backhoes, etc all have A-plan. Passive implements such as boxblades etc would not.
