What does anyone have to say about filling the front tires of a 4WD compact with calcium chloride solution instead of hanging weights off the front of the tractor. Idea no good because of effect on steering I suppose?

Tractor JD4100<br>Tires - R-4 (not loaded)<br>Conditions - 3 acres, high and dry, no low spots or wet areas.<br>The yard has been in for many years, the majority, about two acres were over grown as recently as 10 years ago, it was brushogged into submision.<br>I have mowed 3 times now and have no turf damage. R-4s work on my yard. <br>Under these circumstances the R-4s are a good choice. Very helpfull in the mud or when doing loader work. <br>Would I trust them on a sod yard or new seeded yard? Probably not.

Help! do I need a tractor or a skid steer?? I want to push a lot of dirt around, drag logs, dig stumps, grade, dig some drainage trenches, and other assorted landscaping things on 15 acres of level land, pretty thinly wooded. No mowing, no farming. The land was logged awhile back and everything that was trimmed from the logs is still laying where it fell. Would like to cut in a cross country skiing/hiking trail and fill in the low, swampy areas with gravel and drainage tile. I like the idea of being perched on top of a nice John Deere, but now I'm thinking maybe a Bobcat type skid-steer might be a better choice. Looking at stuff around 40hp is this where I want to be?? Would like to be able to run a 6

I have had my JD 790 for one month now. I have no complaints, other than the need for weights on the front to counter balance the rear mower. I also have the JD loader, a Land Pride 5 foot finish mower and 6 foot LP rear blade . I paid $15.800 delivered for the package. I also looked at Massey Ferguson, Boomers and Kubotas, all nice tractors. I feel the 790 in the HP and size range to be the best buy. I looked and read , drove all sizes and HP ranges of all these tractors. I mow 5 acres and have a 600 foot gravel drive I matain along with landscaping and wood hauling. the JD is well suited to the tasks. I have turf tires and 4 WD. My dealer told me he is replacing the industral tires for his coustomers because of the damage to lawns. The Kubote 2710 is nice but the rear axle length past the bearing housing was a concern for me. I also have a good friend whom sells Kubotas and offered me a good deal on the 3010 hydro 4WD turf tires $ 13.300. I still went Green?

I purchased 8 acres of property. Plan is to regularly maintain 4-5 acres while mowing the rest 3-4 times/year. Land is flat with no outstanding characteristics. I need suggestions on horsepower along with implements needed. Would like to disc 3-4 acre portion on occasion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

I worked on and owned an LT 1o and it had a briggs motor. There are plenty of lt 10 mowers out there. Go<br>to some lawn mower repair shops. They may have some laying around. The one I had<br>was about 25 years old and I was using it to mow as a second mower. Some of your <br>body parts will cross reference to Murray and/or Roper mowers. I sold mine for 125$ last summer.<br>It ran like a top. Had put in a new transmission(USED) for 75$ a year before. <br>Mower deck was really rusted. Good luck.<br>timmyb

I hear you need a pretty big tractor to move logs, especially if the land is hilly. I am also looking at a Massey Ferguson 1200 series. Specifically the 1260<br>with the 1246 loader. I have not been able to find much third party info on<br>these tractors yet either. They appear to be good tractors, especially for the<br>price. I have looked at F/NH in comparison, but have not been able to make it <br>over to the JD dealer yet. What JD are you comparing with?

<br>Chas, My 4300 comes with Hydrostatic transmission, RoPS, ag tires, and 430 loader. I priced several dealers and let them know they needed to offer their best price to get my biz. My local dealer wanted the biz more and I have had good experiece with them so I ordered from them. Now I have to wonder how long I will wait to get it! Dave

Jim,<br>I have a 1986 186D that has a Woods mid mount. I think the tricky part might be getting the Yanmar brackets to mount it.<br>I don't know if they are still available from Woods or not. Good luck,<br>Its a nice tractor!

Well - I've gone full circle. The dealer thought he could trade his 4300/SyncRev with another dealer for a 4300/HST but it fell through. I have an option of waiting for a Hydro and the dealer will work with me by loaning me a tractor in the meantime but, based on discussions here and with others, I have decided to go with the SyncRev. Previous experience with a standard tranny in the past makes me believe I can get along just fine with the Synchro + reverser and I can use the extra $1,200 or so towards another implement instead. <br>Price for tractor (4300/SyncRev/4wd/mid-PTO/Turf tires/DSCV) is $14,894. 430 loader is $3,025. I believe this is a fair price based on what I have seen posted here and elsewhere and based on the current demand for these tractors.<br>I was told that the 420 loaders are in such high demand that if you ordered one today you wouldn't get it until after the first part of August.<br>What a market opportunity for Deere with these compacts. Too bad they weren't able to ramp up faster to meet the demand.A couple dealers I spoke to were pretty frustrated to have paying customers at their doors an not be able to take their money! They can move a few to larger or smaller platforms but it looks like Deere has a winner in this series. I don't know how strong the demand is with Kubota, New Holland and others. Cat. 0 is much narrower than Cat. 1, however, if you use a Cat. 1 draw-bar, the flat kind that goes from lift-arm to lift-arm, and bolt the Cat. 0 device to it you can use the standard top link, I have done this many times it works well. Contact me for a drawing if you don't understand what I mean.<br>

I have a JD750 with a 4' Landpride Bushog. My instruction manual for the bushog shows two sets of hole locations for the two horiz. pins that the side draft links attach to. It says to use one set of holes for larger tractors, or move the pins to another set of holes for smaller tractors. I can't remember which was which as I am at work, but your bushog maye have this on it. It helps prevent the problem you are having, I think. Check it out.<br>Keith
