Whenever I hear this Gospel I cannot help but but feel empathy for the older son who spent his life in support of his father. My brother has a son who has always been lazy, disinterested in his studies, partying, smoking pot ....bad grades... So my brother buys him a beautiful cars at 16 years old, allows him to spend his Dads money as he refuses to get a job on customizations on his car. At 17 my brother lets him sell the car he has to trade for a muscle car. All of this at the father s expense. All the while he has been reckless with the cars causing damage by driving too fast.<br>

When he graduates High School in New England, his grades are so weak that he should really get a job and pay his own way through Community College. But instead my brother searches for a Community College that has on campus housing in Florida and goes through great expense. I guess we love our kids regardless of how disrepectful they can be.<br>

Now my son is much the same as my brothers, he is lazy, gets bad grades in school, drinks, smokes pot, may be doing other drugs as well... I will not give him a car or let him drive anything I own. I told him as long as he is using he will get no money for Community College. He will have to get a job if he needs cash. Well last week he got a job. But he thinks life is not worth living if he cannot have pot, etc.. <br>

So while working is better than laying around the house, the cash may be used for drugs...<br>
<br>
My brother thinks I am too tough on my son, calls me Stalin.<br>

I am new to this site and would like some information on the 3 point hydraulics on a massey ferguson 4270. The hydraulic arms have lost power to lift implements quickly and when tractor is turned off the arms leak off .

Appreciate the reply. First I apologize for the lack of information but forgive me as I know about as much about tractors as my wife. Yeah, that bad.

I did check the hydraulic fluid and it is at level according to the manual. I changed the fluid about 4 months ago as I popped a hose and had to replace it. I believe I used 10W40 oil to fill. The transmission is not belt driven. I am pretty sure it is hydraulic. I crawled under the tractor to find out where the forward and reverse lever went to. I see it goes into the hydraulic control valve. As I move from forward to reverse the levers move in and out of the control valve. Like I said I dont know squat but it seems like a pump issue. Any way to check the pump without tearing out?

One other question, you say it raises it up every 5 - 7 seconds. So is it really dropping or just pressure sort of kicking it.

If it really is dropping it seems you have a leaking cylinder or control valve. If that is it then would need to decide if worth tearing down to repair or just annoying.

My guess is the reason you feel it at higher rpms if the pressure is probably higher make it jump and shake the tractor where you notice it. I doubt any company designs a lift to do this on purpose.

If the box blade is not really dropping my guese is may be a relief valve needs adjusting.

Bigbluecat5, check for floating trash in the fuel tank. A floating piece will get sucked to the fuel outlet as it runs and will when fuel flow stops (cutting if off) slowing vacuum will release and the trash can float, allowing fuel out for it to run again. You can test this if it runs till it cuts off by removing filter and seeing if fuel runs freely.

I would also check air intake system.

The Apple mini is a nice size... but I like the Android gadgets better... I don't like being a part of the marketing inside the itunes world. I pretty much figure out ways to get my content at no cost...

With the large 5 inch screen of the Samsung S4 I have now or the the 5.7 inch screen of the the new Note 3, the benefit of the Nexus 7 or Apple Mini is really not that big of a deal.

I have a Kindle touch and I was thinking of using the Nexus as a back up indoor reader laptop replacement rather than buying a single function Kindle Paperwhite...

Well, got around to draining the tank, flushing the lines and putting in new diesel. It runs great again!

If the Gator is a 6X4 with a Kawasaki engine, you need to replace the water pump. You could just replace the seal inside the pump, but it is a LOT easier to just replace the whole thing (this is the voice of bitter experience talking!).You will need a new water pump gasket also. The engine will have to be removed from the Gator, but not dismantled apart from the water pump. The block is aluminium, so I'd recommend getting a copy of the technical manual TM1518 and pay attention to the torque settings for the bolts.
If you're reasonably at home with engines you may decide to take the opportunity to replace a few other things while the engine is out. I'd definity do the two oil seals and the main bearing (behind the flywheel). Optionally also replace the rings but only if the engine is smokey - by the time you buy the rings, head gaskets, other engine seals and gaskets you will probably be looking at several hundred dollars.

Not quite fixed. I started using the loader and now find that it won't empty if I push the lever with normal pressure. It just locks up after travelling a random distance sometimes as little as one inch. If I use a very soft touch it will slowly empty all the way. The dealer doesn't know why. Has anyone here had that sort of problem? Or have any idea what it could be?
The dealer is wanting to pull the valve apart.

I agree proper tow vehicle would be more fun. I was trying to convince the wife that a pickup was in order. Instead we ended up with a new subaru outback :) Both of my vehicles were 12 years old, the Jeep only had 45000 miles on it. If and when I ever get the $ again I will be in the market for a pickup.

When combined with your other post, it sounds like you bought a used tractor despite the fact it had these problems. A 1997 JD1070 will likely be a hydrostat machine, so the "gear" issue you describe is most likely the range select lever. Should be a High and a Low at minimum, perhaps a Mid in between. It's not a shift-on-the-fly mechanism, the tractor has to be completely stopped when first attempting the shift between ranges. Helps to have a foot on the brakes as well.

As I stated in the other post, more info is needed regarding the rear lift arms.
