The factory service reps. from Kubota told me (I asked the same question when I saw them at a trade show) that the filters are impregnated with a substance which makes even very small particles of dirt to stick to them, sort of like the 'sweeping compound' janitors use. After 1 year the compound looses most of it's effectiveness, wrapped up in the plastic bag they last for ever. They did mention that the filter could be removed and bagged when the machine was to be stored for a period of time, however that would be a real pain to do. Best of luck.

Try this simple method, measure from lock-ring (the groove in the pto shaft that the pin catches) to lock-ring (or hole in some cases) then as was previously mentioned, cut the shaft to be 2-4" shorter (2" may not leave enough play to easily put the pto shaft on & off) than this distance. The easy way to mark the locations on both halves is to seperate them and lay them side-by-side, ends correct distance apart then just make a line with spray-paint across the middle, cut through and re-assemble. Just had a 4100 hydro with loader and rotary cutter delivered. and am operating according to manual (RPM at 2860) When in motion a loud groaning sound is made almost like driving a vehicle with an emergency brake on. The brake hand lever is released and the tractor seems to move freely enough. The sound is loudest in high range. Any comments or insights would be appreciated. I don't recall the hearing that on the unit I tried out (mine had to be ordered). I am familiar with lots of power equipment and I am not at all comfortable with this sound. The delivery guy told me they all sound that way but also told me he had only been at the dealership for 5 weeks and my tractor was the first one he got to set up ( YIKES!!!)

DC, try <www.tractortips.com>. You can select the make and model of the tractor and then you will get a page of specifications about the tractor. There is also a page of serial numbers that will tell you what year yours was made.

So far I have not been able to find anyone who has one of the tractors that Northern, or Hardy sell that is close enough to go take a look at. I will be making the rounds of the local dealers this week to see what I can find out on the JD/NH/MF and Kubotas. I've talked with a couple of the big landowners in our hunt and they seem to be buying big Kubotas. When I narrow down my selection I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Thanks to all for the information. If anyone sees any of the tractors of the Northern/Hardy ilk I'd be interested in what they think of them.

Kelley makes a frame mount kit for the jd4100. I have one mounted on a Yanmar ym1702d, which I rent out. It works great. I'm a Kelley dealer & amgiving a 20% dicount on them. Matt, check the brakes! I had the same problem with my Ford 1700. The cam that spreds the brakes shoes was rusted and when I applied the right brake real hard it had stuck, however the brake pedal returned all the way back up but the brake rewmained locked, removed the cover,which the brakes shoes are attached to. cleaned the cam and very lightly oiled it. Solved the problem

Sorry for taking so long. The number one brand was Kubota but I have a feeling that it is probably JD now. N/H do not try very hard and see it as a low hassle market, by this I mean they ask the dealers in the back end of the year what tractors they require for the following season and then order those tractors. If the dealers do not have the machine that the customer requires then they know that they are unlikley to get it. Therefore New Holland have a no risk compact tractor business in the UK. If they pulled thier finger out they could with the product range avialable in the US become number one. The UK dealers find it very frustrating that the UK range is so limited. The diversity of the tractor market is growing considerably with such manufacturers as Landini, Ferrari, Carraro, TYM, Eurotrac, Jinma, Same and many others joining in the fray.

I have a Kobuta B6100.
I think its 3 pt is a cat 0, too small but gets the work done.
It has a single clutch plate but its PTO has its own seprate 3 speed gear with neutrals between 1 and 2 and between 2 and 3. So its as good as indepen.
I have no experience with a loader on this tractor.
The FS850 rotavator is one great implement. Its used about 95% of the time my B6100 works.

Your in luck! A company called Hub City makes the unit you need. Part number is 02-20-01402-022 and I believe it is around $600 or so. If you can't find it locally call Messick Farm Equipment in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and they can order. This unit bolts right on the back of the transaxle and converts to correct rotation as well as changing to a 1 3/8-6spline shaft. Good luck!

I think most implements are designed for a particular PTO speed and work best at that speed. At least with rotary cutters, it's a good idea to keep the blade speed up because they cut better and break fewer shear pins. The only finish mover I have is a riding mower. It makes a better finish if I run it in lower gear at full throttle, but then, maybe I should sharpen the blades.

Thinking about it, both the 2020 and the 3010 have the "closed center" hydraulic pump with the variable displacement rotor....This is a lot different from many of the compact tractors -most of which still have the old (cheap and simple) "open center" type of hydraulic system. It sure sounds like you have a restriction somewhere or else a pump problem.....I'm betting on it being the high pressure hydraulic filter. That would sure be nice. If so, you had better get if fixed, as those closed center pumps come dear(deere?).
BTW, doesn't that 48 loader overpower the 2020 tractor a bit? What will she lift?

Danny, I took a 4300 to the dealer today to have a 3rd SCV installed. His installation fee was $80. You have to remove the right rear tire and fender to install it. I was told that it was about 2 hours for a person with he knowledge and tools but anybody with good mechanical skills should be able to do it in 4-6 hours. The kit to do it is $220.

Darryl, I think that's a common problem unless you're already on a hard, smooth surface, probably the reason most of us use it so much in reverse. And Jerri, I see both skid steer and tractors being used with the front end loader in the float position to clean up piles of dirt or gravel that have been dumped on pavement. You just have to learn now to tilt the edge down where it tries to dig in.

I have a 4300 with loader, backhoe, belly mower, etc that I got last summer. With about 125 hours on it I have had a PTO leak, loader hydraulic leak, big backhoe hydraulic leaks and a weld broke on the loader hydraulics that raise the arms. The leaks were caused by nicks in the seals / o-rings. That sound like a quality control / assembly problem to me.
The dealer has been very good about fixing these, but I do not think they should have happened in the first place. While I like the tractor, I am disappointed by the problems. I also have a four year old 4 wheel Gator and a new 425 garden that I have not had any problems with so far.

I use a single bottom 3 pt plow with my 26 hp cub 4 wd. Chains on the rear turfs, 4wd, and diff lock as needed. Used it for the garden and making some drainage ditches. Got into some pretty soupy stuff there but did OK.
