OK, page 124 of my 4200 manual says change transmission oil every 500 hours of operation. Same with front axle (page 122). It says to check front axle level every 50 hours and gear transmission oil level every 10 with the sight glass. Check engine oil every 10 hours and change engine oil and filter after first 50 hours and then every 200 hours of operation. I cannot find where it suggests that you change transmission oil and filters at 50 hours of operation. If your dealer is reading from the same manual, maybe that's why he thought you were from Mars. I do not know what manual the others are reading from but sure would like to know where they find information that causes them to reduce the manufacturer's recommendations by 90%. That's like changing car oil and filter every 650 to 750 miles. Keep those oil companies in business.

I have used a landscape rake for the last three weekends on two acres for probably a total of twenty hours. I used it primarily to clear up rocks and limbs on land that was clear cut and the stumps bulldozed. It did a great job but it takes a lot of time and patience. The more you use it, the smoother and better the property gets (rocky and hard clay soil). Feel free to e-mail if you have any specific questions.

Assuming all is equal, there's one other thing: Resale/trade-in/equity value.<br>When I went to buy a tractor, I first looked at used as well as new. My first stop was a good Kubota dealer. When I asked about used, he pointed to a Deere and gave me a price. He apologized for the high price but said that Deeres command a high price on the used market because people would pay more for them. If I'm going to pay about the same for new but have a tractor that's worth more later and all is equal, which one should I buy?

My apologies. I may have had some (or all) of the responsibility for passing on that information. That is what my dealer told me when I bought my collar shift 4200. Three days later he got to prove it and picked up the collar shift and put the hydro on order. I have since found out that he/I was wrong and it only applies to garden stuff. My dealer however still adheres to that policy whether it's a compact tractor or not and, for what it's worth, he has given me the best price I've seen on this board since last fall. But, again, sorry for the misleading information.

I'm about to make the plunge on a used 47 hp Kubota L4350 4wd with loader. I don't think this is the tractor I want for the long haul, but this summer I know I can use the extra loader capacity and power. I may want to trade it off in the fall, or sell it with plans to buy something a little lighter on it's feet. <br> It seems like 20-35 hp tractors move fast. I don't have a feel for how fast something like I am looking at would move.<br> I would appreciate comments.

Have a YM-220 Yanmar that the hyd. hiccups or bounces, with tractor running and rotary cutter lifted up it will sit there and about every minute or two it will drop a little bit and then bounce back, I've changed the hyd. filter, clean wire mesh suction filter and changed hyd. fluild with untiversal hyd. oil rated for john deere, any help would be appreciated.<br>Thanks in advance.

Paid $14,768 for 4200, 420 loader, R-4 tires, 5' Eagle box blade and bucket level indicator (FWD). Hydro was add $1,400. Included delivery and 50 hour service at my place. Got the hydro.

Paul,<br>I have a flat 2 1/2 acre piece of property that is half pasture and half home with lawn. Two years ago I went through the agony of having to decide between JD gear drive and hydrostatic. I bought the 755 hydrostatic and have never regretted the decision. The gear drive (770) was less money but it wasn't what I really wanted. For my purposes the hdro is superior for operations requiring the loader (lots of direction changes) and the hydraulic system is great for driving the backhoe. Regardless of what you decide, my advice is to buy the one you want --- you'll have it a long time. Good luck, Frank Bankes

You can find all sorts of dealers who will negotiate fair prices. There's a Kubota dealer within five miles of where I bought my Deere that will sell to me for less than Mr. Carver. That is not to say Mr. Carver's prices are improper or unfair. He seems like he is a very good dealer. It is simply a matter of getting out and seriously negotiating to the point where you are satisfied it's a good deal. I believe my dealer (and a lot of others in other areas) will beat the price of most other dealers and give good service. You just have to take the time to shop carefully and find them. The last car I saw purchased from a Ford dealer was identical to one offered at the big/low price dealership for $2,500 more. The smaller dealer knew we were serious when we started driving away. Ten minutes later he had sold a car. <br>Take a look at some of the deals people got on Deeres from their dealers--some of them are pretty good. Try those dealers.

I bought a 4200 collar shift and after putting about 3 hours on the tractor over a weekend, I called and said I wanted a hydro. They picked up the tractor later in the week and put a hydro on order. I now have the hydro and couldn't be happier with the purchase. The dealer told me (after I decided I wanted a hydro) that Deere has a policy that you can return the tractor within the first 30 days and get your money refunded or you can have them take it back within 90 and they will replace it with another model that you would prefer to have (you obviously pay the difference in price). Calling it a ripoff is not fair nor accurate. Getting more horse power from an engine will almost always cause more stress on most of the working parts of the engine and will, in many cases require closer tolerances. That all costs money. Additionally, the chances of failure also increase thus requiring more warranty service. They may expect higher failure of certain bearings in the warranty period than at the lower horsepower and thus charge more. <br>Charging more for more horsepower for the same basic engine is a standard practice with virtually all engine manufacturers even when all it takes (as in older Cummins) is changing a button in an injector pump because of the greater financial exposure of the manufacturer and the greater benefit to the consumer. Ease off on the ripoff accusations until you know what you're talking about.

A friend would like to know the horsepower of a Deere 670. Also, if you know, with what Deere model would it be comparable with today? He is thinking of buying one (8-10 years old) with 300 hours and garage kept.

The 4200 is not too much for what you have. I suspect you might be disappointed with anything smaller and wish you had gone to the 4200.

You did not mention whether you were also getting a front end loader. If you are, I do not believe you will be pleased with the gear. I bought a 4200 with the loader and had them come and pick it up after a weekend's use and order me the same tractor with hydro. I have not regretted doing so and would be regretting it if I had kept the collar shift. I really like the hydro despite its additional cost.

Absolutely none. I just never looked at MF because I can't even tell you where there is a dealer. The other dealers are all within 30 miles so MF just never got considered. If you're satisfied, why even think about it?
