After about six months of agonizing over which tractor to buy, today I purchased a NH TC-30(4WD,9x3 trans,ballasted R4 tires)with a 7308 loader(60"HD bucket with bolt-on edge). The TC-30 was $11850 and the 7308 was $3000. All was financed at 0% for 36 months. The dealer's shop is very busy so will not be able to PDI until Tuesday and deliver to me on Wednesday(140 mile round trip). The final decision between the JD 790 and the TC-30 was made by my wife after having driven both models several times (she said that the TC-30 just feels more comfortable). I am sure that either model would have suited us just fine, and so, being that the tractor IS actually for her(HA!,at least that's what I have her believing),I went along with her choice. I will post at a future date with impressions of this unit.

WITH IN THE LAST MONTH I TOO BOUGT A TC 30 WITH THE 7308 LOADER WITHJ R4S AND HAVE ABOUT 12 HOURS ON IT ,,,I LOOKED AT THE 790 AND THE ORANGE ONES AND AND BOUGHT THE TC 30 BECAUSE IT WOULD LIFT HIGHER THAN THE OTHERS IN TO MY TRUCK I LIKED THE WAY IT WAS VERY SIMPLE AND COMPFORTABLE FOR ME BEING A BIG GUY ....I REALYY THOUGHT ABOUT THE HYDRO BUY DECIDED THAT THE MANUAL WAS JUST FINE.AND SHIFTING WASNT REALLY A PROBLEM...SINCE MY PURCHASE I HAVE GOTTEN A REAR MOWER FOR IT NH 951B AND A TAYLOR- WAY BOX BLADE ....oo I DID MAKE A MODIFICATION TO THE LOADER I REMOVERD THE BUMPER THAT IT CAME WITH AND WELDED UP SOME 5 INCH CHANNELAND BOLTED IT ON THE FRONT AND PUT A PIECE OF WOOD ON THE FRONT SO I COULD GET CLOSER TO MY DUMP TRUCK AND IF I DID BUMP THE TRUCK THE WOOD WAS FOREGIVING..IT ALSO GAVE ME ABOUT ANOTHER 12 INCHES OF REACH INTO THE TRUCK THAT IM LOADING ALSO BUILT IT SO IT PROTECTS THE HOOD...THE REAL ONLY THING I WOULD HAVE LIKED IS TO HAVE IS A FOLDABLR ROPS BAR .. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE A GUY WHO MODIFIES THEM ,BUT I HAVENT HEARD FROM HIM YET ...WITH THE R4 TIRES IT WONT QUIET FIT IN THE GARAGE ....ALSO TRIED TO JUST GET A FACTORY ROPS BUT DEALER SAID THEY DONT MAKE ONE FOR THAT MODEL ..... ....

I also am interested in buying a box blade. What size are you using? I also like your front bumper(like being able to get in closer to the truck to dump). I will have to look into that as soon as my machine arrives. How do you like the 951B mower? I am considering purchasing one. What is the height to the top of the ROPS with the R4 tires? I can't find that info. anywhere. Thanks for the advice and insight. ....

BOATMAN my tc-30 with r-4 tires is about 85inches just over seven feet and most garrage doors are about seven feet I tried to get in in but it was too tight so now i keep it in the barn with lost of room to spare ...as far as the the 951B it seems to mow well the fist day they delivered it I attacked a big patch of blackberries to get it broke inn ..now it ahs a few scratches but it worked well I payed $ 740 for it the dealer wanted $950 and probally could have bought a cheeper one but it seemed better buit than the cheeper ones I had seen...as far as the box blade I put a 61 inch taylor made that a friend of mine gave me and it seems to work well it just covers my wheel tracks .... ....

A 5' box probably is what would be recommended. I have a 6'/750 lbs. one for my Ford 1710 with turf tires, which is a similar tractor.
I like the extra width because one pass either side of my drives leaves about the right width crowns on top. Last summer I cut a swale along a fence. I couldn't have gotten close enough to the fence if I didn't have some box length outside the tires.
It will drag full boxes of gravel on compacted surfaces and generally cut our sandy soil here. When it does become traction challenged, I use the hydraulic top-link to take smaller cuts. If I were trying to use scarifiers or simply cut heavy clay soil, I might wish for a 5' blade and one fewer scarifier and ag tires, but the 6' works for what I do and has some advantages over a 5' one.
In general, the weight of a box for its length is a rough measure of quality and also how well it's going to perform. When I was looking, I tried to find the heaviest box that was priced under the name brands. I end up using it more than I thought, so maybe I wouldn't be as price sensitive now.

Price here is 11,500 on the TC30. I would say the big difference between the TC and the 790 is the brakes.

Box scraper/blade: I use a 6' King Cutter from Tractor Supply. It has a blade fore and aft the box. Works great, strong unit--use commercially. I have a TC33D and have no problems pulling it through clay. Would recommend the heaviest suitcase weights for the front though---have had a few situations where the box was loaded up so much the front wheels lifted. (Suitcase weights will rub a bit with SuperSteer) ....
