Well my crabgrass and most other warm weather weeds have succumbed to the first frost.
I have read that Fall fertilizing is the best thing to strengthen cold season grasses.
So when I was a kid we used to buy 10-6-4 which was pretty cheap and guess better for the root system vs high nitrogen varieties like Scotts Fall 33-0-10 Turf builder.
Does anyone use Milorganite 6-4-0 organic lawn food. Does organic suck less out of the soil, and is worth the extra cost for very low octane?

I can remember using 10 6 4 when I was a kid. The good news is you get a lot of material to spread so you can spread in multiple directions, 10 pounds per 1000 sq feet.
The bad news is it si not slow release so your efforts will be short lived. The name brands Fall lawn products spread at under 3 pounds per thousand and are slow release.
So I would go with a Fall Lawn food product rather than 10-10-10 or 10-6-4. Fewer bags less lugging longer lasting about the same cost. ....

I just fertilized the lawn thinking exactly what you said the weeds are dead and I want to encourage the cold season grasses to strengthen while the weeds are asleep.

Not really a grass expert, but if you are as much of a procrastinator as you say Fatguy, I would throw starter fertilizer down as it seems you skipped the soil test and you might as well help the root system while you are at it if you are at it :-(
But turkey day is a great time to be doing it! ....
