I am new to owning a tractor of any model. So my 1610D Yanmar problem is this. Most of the time I can get it to kick over when I arch the solenoid terminals, but I don't think thats the way I should continue to do it. Is it my starter or solenoid? Where do I start, so I can solve this issue? Thanks for any feedback.

First make sure good cables, clean connections, especially check the ground wire where it attaches to the frame. Using a volt meter check the small wire going to the solenoid. When you turn the key to the crank position you should be getting voltage at that wire. Also make sure you have a good 12.6 at the large wire from battery. Maybe feedback from these tests and we can move forward. ....

if IT STARTS WHEN YOU jump across the solenoid your problem is in the key switch , safety switch or the wiring of the key circuit. ....
