Recently my gator engine yanmar diesel would not stop. As this was happening the tilt tray would not open. It eventually opened and lots of smoke everywhere. Now it does not start. There are no signs of anything being burnt anywhere but there was a lot of oil build up on the engine prior to the problem. Could a failed solenoid cause the temporary electrical fault? Any help trouble shooting would be appreciated. David

I would say your fuel shut off solenoid is the problem. A lot of times they get pull and hold voltage together and the resulting amperage cooks the solenoid. I would check for voltage in the red and white wires in the plug to the solenoid. One of them should only be hot in the start position, the other in the run position. There is a diode connected to the K2 relay that goes bad and could be your problem. ....
