Proper Engine RPM When Using Lift

I have made it a practice to increase my tractor engine RPM to operating speed (PTO at 540 RPM) when lifting implements with the 3-point hitch. I have begun to wonder if this is necessary as I have seen neighbors not bother to do so. My tractor manual, John Deere 790, does not address this issue. From experience, I know my tractor will lift implements at lower RPM. Am I using the correct procedure when I increase the RPM? Thank you.

Not always necessary, depends upon the weight of the implement relative to the capacity of the pump. Increased revs are only really necessary if/when raising an implement causes a noticeable decrease in engine revs or increase in pump noise.
