Help, I have a bandit stump grinder with a 27HP Kohler engine. 3 of the 4 studs coming off the cylinder head for the muffler broke off, one damaged the hole. Tried to have it drilled out, but only caused more damage. So then I went for broke and tried to drill out the others, hpong to get enough of a hold for the muffler. Bad move and caused more problems. Anyway, does anyone know of any type of solution short of changing the cylinder head that may help. I don't think the holes can be modified enough to accept the studs. The engine is fine other than that. can the cylinder head be welded or any type of material added to fill holes and be redrilled or something?

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I already tried the Heli coils. They wouldn't maintain the bite and one of the holes is so damaged that the stud can't sit straight so the muffler can't be pulled tight enough to the cylinder to creat a seal. Is there some kind of machist or specialist that I could seek help from?

Any machine shop that does engine work will be able to weld in and rework those holes for you.

Best of luck. ....

Thank you Murf. I wasn't sure you could weld the cylinder head, but I'm going to give it a try.
