My 1984 L225DT kubota tractor started leaking engine oil. The oil is coming out of a quarter inch hole on the bottom of the engine just ahead of the oil pan directly above the steering arm. Does anyone know if this is a hole to indicate some seal failure inside the engine or did a plug simply fall out?

Colink,

I'm not sure what that hole was intended for, but I can tell you for sure that there is something missing there.

Many of Kubota's engines are used in multiple applications, from power plants, emergency lighting, welders, and a host of other machines made by other companies. It's quite possible that at least one of those applications would make use of the hole you described.

You should NEVER have an open hole that would allow dirt, water, etc....to enter your crankcase. Something fell out of that hole. It may have been a plug, or possibly a crankcase breather vent.

One of our members here might have a part number for the missing item. If not, I know Mary at Coleman Equipment, in Kansas, will be able to help you.

Hope this helps.

Joel ....
