Hi Art ,I bought a used GCK60-BX grass catcher (for my 03 BX2200) do you know what weight gear lube goes in it , and the recommended hrs to change it? , any help would be great! ,Craig.

Almost every gear box I've ever seen took 80W-90 gear oil.

Thanks Murf ,I didnt know if it took 80/90 or a straight weight oil, should the gear boxes (2)be changed every 100 hrs? ....

It's personal preference, we do it pretty regularly but our machines aren't doing homeowner stuff. I think it's a good opportunity to get an idea of what's going on in there.
On the other hand lots of them run on whatever the factory poured in for the entire life of the machine.
It's cheap insurance in my books.

Murf has been doing a great job so far and I can't add to much to his advice!
We don't have an owners manual here for me to reference for you so I'm not going to be able to add anything to his advice other then if you change the oil once a year in the gear box it should be able to last a lifetime for you as many never get changed till they go bad.
I'd trust the 80-90 and you should be fine. ....

Thanks guys!, the only thing that I have to do is take the cover off to get to the gear box's , I believe they are the same style as the kubota gear box's on the mower deck's with the upper and lower drain and fill holes and a hole to check the oil level,Craig. ....

I can't remember for sure anymore what machine this was on, a rotery chopper I think that I had sometime in the past that no drain plug on the gearbox. As I remember there was a combination fill/level check plug on the side. And do remember for sure a grain auger gearbox that the only way to drain the grease was to take the thing apart. ....

Hardwood thats the problem you run into when you don't have a owners manuel, I guess I'll have to find a dealer to buy one, the only thing my kubota dealer had was a parts diagram,since they lost the line,they cant get a manuel for me, I know the gravely tractors have grease instead of gear lube, I just want to have everything ready when I take it apart, the only thing I know for sure is that it has two gear box's inside! , Craig. ....

Rather than take it apart to get the lub out I'd use a suction gun. Suck out what u can and refill. ....
