I have a B21 which is the perfect size for me. I got it with a 12" backhoe bucket but now feel I need a larger one. Kubota sells a 10", 12", 16",24",30", and 36" bucket for this TLB. Has anyone used a 16" or larger on the B21? I would question that the digging power would lesson with a larger bucket especially 24" and up.

Please share your experiences.

I don't like to sell the 12 for other then dry trenching. Wet dirt sticks to them so it is hard to get out when dumping. My favorite is the 16" bucket, they do handle them quite nicely and still leaves a lot of power without a lot of stress from the width. I have seen up to the 24" bucket used with good results in the right soil when digging, the key is no rocks! The 36 would be a bottom or ditch bucket style for small scoops and basic trench grading.

Most buckets as they get wider also get shallower so the capacity remains about the same for that size machine. The difference is the side leverage from the pins. ....

That makes perfect sense. I really should have gotten the 16" to start but the 12" works very well for removing stumps. Where I live the soil is sandy byond the topsoil and contains very little rocks. My main use is trenching so a 12" or 16" are my best bets. ....

For sticky bucket dumping in these parts we use a chain connected to a tooth of the bucket and the other attached to the boom. When loose and in the digging position the chain stays in the bucket, but when you dump it, the chain tightens and thereby pushes the sticky stuff out. I can't tell you where exactly where to attach it to the boom 'cause every boom configuration is different, just be sure it doesn't get pinched in the linkage when outstretched. For a more permanent installation you could bolt the one end of the chain inside the bucket just behind the center tooth (if the chain is too far inside it defeats the purpose). ....

Earthwrks,

I could have used this "chain in the bucket" idea when I was in Georgia, digging sewer ditches. Thanks for the tip. I'll always remember this little trick.

Seems never a days goes by that I don't learn something new here. Many thanks.

Joel ....
