I have a 1990 L 2550 that I bought last year. Ever since I bought it the rad light has been on the consel. The person I bought it from says it has been on ever since he had it. I have put 200 hours on the tractor since then and the only time it heats up is after about 45 minutes of running a 5 foot bushhog in the middle of summer? Does anyone have any hints on what is going on with that light being on? Or why it is over heating after 45 minutes of bush hogging?

The tractor should be able to run far longer then 45 minutes without "over heating". I'd wonder of just a bad switch or a short in a wire. ....

I take it there is no heat gauge?

The sensor that tells the light when to go on and off works by changing it's resistance when exposed to heat or cold. If the circuit becomes disconnected, either by simply falling off the plug at the sensor, or the wire breaking, or the sensor going bad, it will turn the light on all the time like that.

It's an easy fix, first unplug the sensor and see if the light goes off. If so just replace the sensor. If the light doesn't go off, then short the wire to ground, if that doesn't change anything, then measure from ground to the sensor terminal with an ohm meter, if you get a zero reading then the sensor is fine, the problem is between the sensor and the light in the dash panel. Just carefully follow the wire and you will find a problem spot.

Best of luck. ....
