Dear friends,
For anyone who might be interested, Brendan Casey, author of the monthly Hydraulics Preventative Maintenance Newsletter (free by e-mail) is going to be presenting a class in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 3, 2007.
I receive Brendan Casey's monthly newsletter on hydraulics. It's a very informative piece, and I look forward to receiving each newsletter he sends out.
This month, Brendan Casey's focus is on debunking the most common hydraulic myths. To this point, he's addressed the issue of placing a screen on the suction line of a hydraulic pump....choosing the perfect fluid...... and the causes of cylinder creep. (loader slowly dropping, for example)
If I could attend this class, I would, but Cleveland is a LONG WAY from me.
I'm passing this along to anyone who might be interested.
see the link below. (Click on the Cleveland, Ohio link to sign up for this class.)

It's a great newsletter. It is one of the few things I receive in my in-box that I actually enjoy reading each month.

Dear friends,
Here's just a taste of what you'll be receiving in your email when you sign up for Brendan Casey's free newsletter.

Hello again Joel,
In your last hydraulic maintenance email,
I talked about the leakage characteristics
of spool-type and poppet-type valves.
Still on the topic of leakage, today I'm going to
explain the potential pitfalls when measuring
case leakage from a hydrostatic transmission.
A hydrostatic transmission consists of a
variable-displacement pump and a fixed or
variable displacement motor, operating together
in a closed circuit.
In a closed circuit, fluid from the motor outlet
flows directly to the pump inlet, without returning
to the tank.
Because the pump and motor leak internally, which allows
fluid to escape from the loop and drain back to the tank,
a fixed-displacement pump called a charge pump is used to
ensure that the loop remains full of fluid during normal
operation.
continued........
