I have a L355SS tractor with a shuttle transmission. After running the tractor for about 10 minutes. The oil light comes on. After running the tractor for about 1 hour the tractor wants to die and I have a lot of heat coming from the transmission. I check the engine temperature and it seems to be normal on the gauge. I can put my hand on the oil cover pan and it will not fry my hand, only warm. I removed all the oil from the transmission and cleaned out the screen. I put the same oil back in. Same results. I talked to a tractor mechanic and he asks what the viscosity of the oil was. I told him I did not know. The tractor belonged to a man that passed away about 2 years ago. He said that it needs to be real thin like a 5W. Is this correct? Can some one tell me the correct Transmission/Hydraulic Oil to use? Viscosity and A good brand. I do not have a Kubota Dealer in My area. Nearest one 70 miles away. Any Help appreciated...Thanks Cal

Calvin,

I don't know why the oil light would come on after 10 minutes of operation. I assume you have checked the oil level.

The heat being generated is probably coming from a slipping clutch.

What are you doing with your tractor? If you are just mowing, you shouldn't have any trouble with the clutch slipping. But, if you are working your loader pretty hard, your clutch could easily be the problem.

I don't have any fluid info for the L355. I can't help you with that.

I am using the loader and a blade I have on the back to grade our roads. The blade is not very heavy and the tractor will get hot while only using the blade. Most of the time I do haul road base with the loader and smooth it out with the blade. After the tractor gets hot it looses it power. I do not use it for mowing. The clutch seems to be ok while just moving around. If I am not very careful the tractor will die very easily while I am trying to pickup a load of base. I can not push it very hard. ....

Calvin,

It sounds to me as though you could have a serious problem with your hydraulic pump.
