Can I do this? I was about to weld some pockets onto a generator so I could get it with my forks and then I thought I might fry something. So I'm asking you folks. As long as it is not running I'm okay, right?

Kleinchris,
So long as the generator isn't running, you should have no trouble at all.
Connect your ground clamp as close to your work area as possible, and make sure you have a good connection. Electricity always follows the path of least resistance.

Be sure to disconnect any electrical ground connection such a wire cable or flexible wire strap between the generator and/or the engine and roll cage. And if the gen./eng. does not have rubber dampeners/isolators (which act as insulators) somehow disconnect that attachment. ....
