Does anyone currently make a bx1500 sized tractor? I am looking for a mower with occasional 3pt ability. I own a Kubota L2800 and don't want to invest in another rider that won't last and doesn't have more versatility than my husqy 15hp. I just didn't want to spend the 10+ grand on a bx1830 if I didn't have to.

Ejkessler,

Have you looked at the Cub Cadet Model 5234D?

Tractorhouse.com shows two listings. One of them has 444 hours on it..nice shape....$5500.00

This tractor is more like a riding mower, but it has a 3-point hitch, PTO, and a 54" mowing deck.

Joe,
Thanks for the heads up. I will check that out. Does anyone have much experience with the cub cadet line? I have heard mixed reviews over the years from what sounded like a lot of changing in ownership and quality issues. ....

Ejkessler,

My experience with the Cub Cadet line goes back too many years to be of any use to you. At one time, Cub Cadet tractors were the only mowers we had on the farm, but that was back in the 1970s.

I hear rumors that you'll want to stay away from certain Cub Cadet models, but I can't tell you off the top of my head which ones are lousy.

If the Cub Cadet reliability issues concern you, have you looked at the garden tractors made by John Deere?

I've looked at a lot of these small garden tractors over the past couple of years. In the end, I decided that the price difference between the small garden versions and the REAL tractors wasn't much. Better to have a real tractor, I thought. I'm glad I went with the Kubota.

I'm just curious......none of my business, mind you......but why a smaller tractor, in addition to the L2800? Curious minds want to know. hehehe.

Joel ....

Joe,
I have a 4+ acre piece I need to maintain and though I use the 72" rear finish mower, I need something that will maneuver around fence lines, kenneling and bushes. I also like leaving the back hoe on my L2800 at times and like the ability to swap out 3pt attachments along with mowing. A zero turn in my mind is too much money for only one use. I am coming to the same conclusion that going with a real tractor like a bx is better than some of the tin cans they call mowers. I did look at the JD's in that size and don't believe they are worth the money. You pay more initially for a real tractor, but you don't lose out in the mid to long term. I love the L2800 and works well for what I need, I just want to add to my tool chest. ....

I*The BX1850 is your answer unless you run into what I did on 2 Bx1500 tractors; A new one with MMM for $7650 and a used 350 hour one with MMM for $5150.
2*Ten grand hain't bad for the BX1850 Compared To $12000 to $15000 for a JD X700 series GARDEN TRACTOR.
Shop around some more And see if you can get a better price on a new BX1850.
I got a price of $9100 from my Kubota Dealer for a New BX1830 with a 54' MMM before I bought the 2 BX1500 tractors.
If I were you and didn't want to pay new I'd be looking hard for A used BX1500 BX1830 or BX1850.

1&2* I compared The JD X 748 garden tractor with The BX1500 REAL sub compact tractor.
Bought 2 of the BX1500s and 4 attachments for the same money as 1 X748. ....

1* I came to that conclusion long ago.
2*I found x700 JDs to be nothing more than over priced garden tractors.
Really nice garden tractors but still over priced.
3* Not necessarily as I just paid $6200 for a NEW real BX1500 tractor compared to $12000 for a JD garden tractor. `````````````` ....

Here in Ct. I could not find a BX 1500 new and the used ones people wanted close to 9,000 just for the tractor. I ended up buying a Scag zero turn freedom Z for 5500.00 with a 19hp Kawasaki motor and have literally cut down my mowing time to a third of the time it used to take. I was skeptical at first but now I am a believer. I called 6 different dealers in a 100 mile radius from where I live and if I had come across a new BX 1500 for that amount of money or anything close to it I would have jumped on it. The closest thing I could find was a 2000 BX 2200 with 60"mmm w/ 650 hours on it for 6500.00. I waited a few days to decide and then it was gone. ....

ejkessler:

I have a tractor that is the Japanese counterpart of the John Deere 4010 (2002 model year), only a bit shorter. It's a Japanese market Yanmar KE-4D.

Used 4010's go for $ 11 - 12 grand, I can do this for half that or so.

Super Compact 4 wd, with loader. I can't imagine a more compact 'yard tractor' sized 'real tractor'

It's been well maintained and has 320 hours - I can sell it real reasonable.

(I love it, but have 3 tractors & wife says 'sell' ! Can I make do with only 2 ?)

Anyhow, it has a 3 point hitch, category 1, PTO, 16 engine HP Loader capacity 750 lbs (with counterweight).

Right now, it's got a new Howse field mower 3.5' with chainguards. Can sell with or without the mower.

I don't know where you're at, but if this sounds interesting, I can email you details / a link to my craigslist ad so you can see pics.

You can call my cell and leave your email if you'd like more details.

I can be emailed at dbazley-earthlink.net (replace hypen with 'at' symbol, of course - can't post email adresses here, geesh !)

936-371-1447 cell

Best Regards, David B.

1*Now you can see why I couldn't pass up a New BX1500 for$6200 and a used 350 hour one for $4425 and grabbed them both up can't you?
$9000 is pretty high for a used BX1500 tractor only with no mower considering that I can trot over to my Kubota dealer and pick up a new BX1850 with the 54 " MMM anytime for $9100.
2*I did that earlier this summer on a nice JD x455 that was a steal for $3500. ....
