I have 1.5 acres in Miami and needed a small tractor with a loader and chipper. I looked at Deere and Kubota- and kept with Kubota. I ordered the BX24 with a Bearcat PTO chipper model number 77454 with the square discharge chute (model 74634-00). I did not order the mowing deck.

I was lucky enough to hit the dealer last Friday when they had a rep from Bearcat and was demoing the chipper. I had a L4630 with a Bearcat 72854 hydraulic unit- way too big to be kept on 1.5 acres; which I sold. The rep pointed me towards the smaller 77454 chipper.

The Kubota BX24 handled this chipper with ease, mainly I need it for palms (queens, royals, bismarks), oak, and smaller trees. This unit has the cantilever rotor which for my purpose made sense- no fibers winding around a drum style chipper.

We have a ton of ficus and other small brush down here so I also opted to purchase a Bearcat 75311 3" chipper / shredder on the days I need to fit into tight places or don't want to feed small material into the BX24 PTO chipper. A shredder will justy suck in ficus and any other cuttings I need to dump into the chute.

The BX24 seems to have plenty of horse power to run just about anything I need as a homeowner. Coming off a L4630 it was a step down (big time) but the reality is the size and loss of horsepower is minor compared the price of $14,900 for a SCUT.

A backhoe, a loader, a tractor for that price is hard to beat- throw in the 0% financing options and it is hard to beat. Besides I am ready for hurricane season!

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Botics,

Congratulations on your purchase. I hope you enjoy your new Kubota.

A small tractor is highly valuable in any area in which storm damage occurs quite frequently. With your chippers, you'll be able to make good money on the weekends.

Enjoy your new BX24.

Joel ....
