I have a L2850 and have a clutch question. Although the clutch appears to work fine, it does not grab until the pedal is almost completely released. When I watch the clutch shaft there appears to be almost no movement by eye. It makes no sense how it even works. I adjusted the arm to push more, however I really do not see much movement of the arm, but the clutch seems to work. I do know the PTO does not stop until the clutch pedal is all the way down, but with the clutch just depressed have way the transmission can be shifted. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

The clutch system on that tractor should be adjusted as they work fine when right but the adjustment is critical to long life. It does sound like it is out of adjustment. ....

Art,

Do you adjust it with the linkage rods or is there another adjustment I am not seeing or know about.

I'd think that there might be internal adjustments as I believe it is a two stage clutch in that unit. The upper part is your main drive clutch and the lower 1/3rd or so is supposed to be for the pto. I believe your linkage is a single adjustment for a combination of both. I don't have reference material with me to be sure of the unit but I'll try tommorow. ....

Thanks Art,

I am actual taking a lot of this tractor apart to repaint and fix some things wrong with it. I think your right, it probably is a two stage clutch. The guy I bought it from disconnected the wires from the clutch solinoid, nutral safety switch I think. I am not sure I like that.
