I am looking at a 2305 for a small yard and farm. I am going to regrade and put in some gardens and trench elec. conduit. How much does everyone use there thier backhoes and would you recommend renting.

I would say if you can afford to buy it I would. Then later on down the road if you find that you no longer need it, sell it. It will hold it value as long as you keep it maintained. TO rent one you are looking at about $250 to $300 a day plus pick up and delivery. Gets expensive real quick. ....

I would definitely buy the backhoe. The backhoe gives your tractor more versatility than you can imagine right now. If you can't do a job with the loader, then you will find a way to do it with the backhoe. ....

Okay, I'll be the voice of dissent here.
I was quoted $200/weekend rental for a Compact Track Hoe by my Kubota dealer (not delivered). I believe that included 10 hours of hobbs time. Let's see, $7500 for a CUT backhoe, divided by $200 per weekend rental, equals 37-1/2 weekends of work. Even if you double the rental, thats still just under 19 weekends. That makes it tough to justify a back hoe purchase in my book.
Just my opinion. ....

It all depends upon how much you need to use one. I ordered a 46 BH for my tractor a couple of weeks ago, and will be getting it installed tomorrow.
Once you know how many projects you plan on doing with it, it should be pretty easy to figure out the math. For me, I figured I'd be wasting an hour to pick up and drop off everytime I want to rent one. Plus the rental costs. If that amount of time and rental costs exceed - let's say $2000 - you get the BH (assuming cash isn't the issue). I say $2000 because I would think that would be the maximum depreciation you'd see over a couple of years if you sold it when you were done with your projects.

As stated, the "convenience" factor can't be over stated.
It's a tool. When you need it you need it. In my case I certainly have more opportunities to put it to work than I have time to use it.

Actually my wife talked me into getting the backhoe. I don't know how she could have known how useful it would be. As for renting - I couldn't justify a tractor with just loader over renting also. It IS about convenience. AND pride. AND just wanting to ride on one of these babies and feel the power of the diesel and hydraulics.
There are many jobs I have done on my property that I would never have done if I had to go out and rent a machine. With the backhoe I have put in drainage systems on a whim. I have put in PVC just to carry extension cords underground so as to not interfere with mowing. I will have EVERY rock dug up on my property and every square inch mowable. I have transplanted large trees around the property each spring until I have everything perfect.
I figure I might get $50,000 more for my property some day as a result of having the tractor - $25,000 from the tractor and loader - $25,000 from the backhoe. ....
