Mitsubishi MT -16D Won t start

The other day I was using my tractor to move rocks the kids were putting in the front loader I must of started and stopped at least a half dozen time that day. One of the girls comes over said we are ready for you to dump the rocks so knowing that the tractor is warmed up I didn't go to the first turn position were you push the glow plug button on the dash I just turned it over. I heard a pop sound and there was nothing no lights no turnover. So the first thing I thought of must be dirt in the key switch had that happen before put a little WD40 on the key fixed the problem in the past this time it didn't. I opened up the fuse box and checked the fuses all good so I called my tractor guy he said the key switch is probably bad and I should replace that so we ordered an Kubota key switch fits in the location like a glove wired it up NOTHING no lights(dash lights) no turnover I moved wires around on the switch with no changes keeping the AC wire in the same place no sparks. The battery has 12.8VDC. I was thinking maybe control time unit or engine solenoid but not in line with the battery SAFETY SWITCH but where would this be on a 1986 MITSUBISHI MT-16D tractor? Thanks in advance for the assistance if anyone can help me

Know nothing on this tractor but do the simple thing, using test light or meter begin at the beginning, the battery. First be sure it is good, then test the voltage on the batter cable clamps if good there go to the other end. You may find it to be either the battery, one or both of the clamps connection or a cable or the connection to the tractor ground or to what ever the positive cable connects to. Often starter solenoid. These some times show up if you twist the clamp on the post or bolt. Does it have a fuse link wire in line? Would not expect that tractor to have a complicated or major wiring harness in it. You should be able to follow the wires till you hit no power. Do not assume the ground cable and connections are good, they fail also. I had a battery cable clamps to glaze over on the inside, not easy to tell but voltage would come and go with moving the clamp so knew where the issue was.

I did further investigation on the switch to find out that I had the AC and BAT right but the other connector on glow plug start vice on the starter terminal so that was an easy fix then I heard relays and solenoids clicking no lights things were different then checked battery cables cleaned terminals Positive then Negative when I moved the negative terminal I heard relays clicking with the ignition in the on position lights came on the dash GETTING WARMER so I got my jumper cables out and disconnected the negative from the battery and put jumper on battery terminal and to chase tractor started up and ran WELL DAMN the negative cable is bad so I disconnected from chase and it was corroded got the grinder out cleaned up both ends and the chase contact point and IS RUNNING AGAIN BACK TO WORK. Thanks for some further guidance AND CHIVE ON

Few years back had problem with a tractor not turning over. Made no sense, it might or might not. It was due to some OLD wise people here I pulled my battery cables and looked inside the clamps. The clamps were glazed over on the side. Tried sand paper nope. Ended up buying one the terminal tool with a reamer on one end and outside tool for the post itself. That solved that problem and that had to be 8 or so years ago. Battery cables often fail but the failure is hidden from the eye until close inspection as you found out.
