Depth is determined by frost line in your area. When in doubt put it a little deeper.

Be aware the Miss Utility/BUD programs only locate utilities going from the curb! They couldn't tell me where my propane line was from the house to the underground tank, and my gas company doesn't seem to know or care. They also don't know where my septic is; other than the general location of tank and drain field my county health dept has, nobody can tell me where it is but me. Just something to keep in mind.

Definitely bury it FAR from that gas line. Last thing you want is to bump into that line when digging your water line.

If you're not ready to install sewer lines from the garage, why not just install a hydrant right outside your garage for water?

I did it with a rear blade on my bx23. I had problems with the one corner of the blade being lower than the other when I tried to angle it, so I plowed with it straight (& facing forward). Deeper drifts I moved with my FEL. I am no expert,so I'm sure others have better advice.

Some contractors just do this. They don't care because they know you can't easily hire a new contractor when they leave your home in pieces and they have your deposit money. And then they'll insist the new fees are "industry standard".

If you refuse to pay this bill, is the work sufficiently done that it won't keep you from using your home? If that's the case, I'd tell him I'm not paying since it wasn't in the original contract. Let him threaten to sue... it's his problem then, not yours.

Either way he can't order a sub to do work above and beyond his contract, then just have the bill sent to your house. He's acting as general contractor so that fee should've been somewhere in his quote (or clearly stated otherwise in writing).

You can try reporting him to the state liscensing dept, BBB, and state consumer protection division (usually part of state Attorney General's office).

Today at 6pm I paid $2.99/gallon (Regular 87 octane). On my way back from dinner the same gas station is $3.34, just 2 hours later!

If this keeps up, going to trade in my gas guzzlers for horses and travel amish style.

I don't know many people not on steriods who can walk a huge, energetic dog without some occasional trouble. My parents had 2 dogs, both over 100 lbs and all muscle... I don't know anyone who could hold them back if the dog really wanted to chase something.

The solutions are just good training and if that fails, lots of band-aids.

I am even lazier. I use my backhoe to weed my gardens. I have some nasty weeds here that are impossible to just pull. I'm not up to using a shovel to hand-dig out each big weed plant. It's also 10x easier to add & remove flowers and trees to the landscaping. I'll never hand-dig again (I hope!)

Have you test-driven either of them? Do the controls make sense? Are they harder to steer, unsually loud, and/or uncomfortable to sit in? Do either/both have HST and 4wd?

Ask about warranty. When I got my bx23 last year it had a better warranty than the comparable NH I was looking at.

I test drove both and found the NH much louder when the mower was running. I also had a not-so-good NH dealer, so in the end I went with the kubota.

It pays to look at details, test drive, and ask lots of questions. What looked good in the ad wasn't the same experience to drive, so definitely try them out.

Murf- That's too funny! Thanks for the good laugh. Now THAT is a stupid dealer.

brokenarrow- Don't know what to tell you. Some of them have this attitude that the internet isn't a place people do business.

Some dealers just don't watch the salepeople they hire. They have no clue if the salesman is doing his job.

My local dealer has gone downhill. Now if I need a price or info on anything, I have to call, leave a message. When (and if) they call back in a day or two I tell then what I need and they need to "look it up" and call me later (for simple, standard items!)

It's what I settled on for my 15 acre horse farmette after looking at 2 other big brands. I'm pretty happy with it a year later. I really don't need anything bigger. It also fits nicely mowing between my orchard trees and it fits in my garage, so in my case Compact size is better.

I sold a few things on ebay 3 months ago. There was a dispute over one of the sales I was paid for, and I was waiting for a reply from eBay to credit the commissions on the unsold item. But eBay never got back to me.<br>

So now I can't bid, I can't get them to reply to any of my inquiries, and I can't pay the past-due 62 cent balance. Does this make any sense to anyone? lol

I'm in the same boat: 33, no kids and (so far) no regrets for not having any.

And I do get annoyed when friends with kids don't have the money to do the littlest things because they had kids without planning or financial security. One friend has 2 kids and a truckload of pets and is about to lose her mobile home after she stopped paying the bankruptcy payments; she could work and she just chooses not to!?

I would pay $3k for a pet's vet bills. This year I spent about $1,300 to get my cat's bad thryriod irradiated. If you have pets and they need treatment, there is no choice. You can't just dispose of them every time one falls sick.

I do love not being child-poor. Own 2 horses and I train with a riding instructor 3x a week. There's so much I can do for myself, my family, and my community without the burden of children.

Plus it's not like there isn't a surplus of children in the US anyway.

My bx23 can load my small pickup (1999 ford ranger sized). don't know if the bigger pickups are any taller? I suppose this would also depend on if the truck has a big off-road kit installed or not.

I think killing them off one by one is a lost cause. More will just move in.

Find out why you're having such a problem with them. Are you storing grain, birdseed, or anything else that is their food supply? Can your vehicles be made less like safe havens for them? If the cars are sitting outdoors and not being used for so long rats are nesting in them, have you thought about selling them or moving them indoors?

Also try to think of ways to make the area scarier to rodents. Rats like cover, tall grass/weeds, and stuff in the yard to hide in/under. Cut the grass along the house foundation and around your cars super-short. Remove anything in the yard they can hide under (lawn equipment, wheelbarrows, and such).

Poison is a double-edged sword. It'll work for awhile. Then you'll be left with rats who prefer not to eat it or who have a natural resistance to the chemical. In the meantime you're leaving around a poison pellets and toxic carcasses that your pets, local wildlife, or small kids could get hurt with. Plus rats sometimes pick stupid places to die, leaving your garage smelling of rotting roadkill for weeks. Yuck.

Even after the rain showers, I'm still having a heck of a time digging. It grabs with the center drill part but when the teeth on either side made contact, it just goes nowhere. I tried sharpening the teeth but maybe I didn't do it right? Is there somewhere online I can get info about what angle auger teeth should be?

My dealer (Kubota) called today to say the downpressure kit I ordered came in. I double-checked with him asking if he's sure that's all I needed. Salesman: "Duh, I dunno." He guessed if I really needed to know he could ask someone and call me right back. Hours later he calls back. I need all sorts of parts (at over $500) to hook to the $400 downpressure kit. I did tell him when I ordered the kit it was for the BX23 which I bought new from them. It shoudn't be such a mystery what things are needed to make it work with their tractor. ((annoyed))

Asked about replacement teeth for this auger (bought it from them, too). They only sell "Bobcat (brand) teeth" and they had no idea if they'd fit or what my teeth looked like.

I wish I could just order these things online without having to deal with the idiot local dealer. The reason for buying local was supposed to be service & expertise, and I am now very disappointed.

Now what do I do? Do I pay the $900+ and hope they didn't forget to include some other parts? (price didn't include installation)

Are we sure it'll solve my problem? $900 is alot of money to me. Isn't there some other way I could add a little weight to the end of the digger for the same result?

Should I try a smaller diameter auger (current one is 12")?

Or where can I get a sharper auger designed for dry clay?

Where do I get new Land Pride auger teeth if my dealer is also the local LP dealer and won't order them?

Not all new metal stoves are catalytic, so you could still go with metal if you wanted.

Pay more attention on getting the right output stove for your situation. You don't want something super-big if you've got a cottage or if it's in a small closed-in room.

You also don't want an oversized stove if you're going to burn smaller fires most nights. Bigger isn't always better.

Pay attention to clearances on that model you're looking at. Some can be placed closer to a wall than others. Some require you buy an optional heat shield if you want it anywhere close to a wall.

Front vs side loading: it might be convenient and/or allow you to stack the wood better BUT pay attention to clearances. When you have a door you may have to leave more room between stove and a side wall than you would otherwise.

I'm looking to get one for here before fall. I've also looked into the corn stoves (corn is *dirt* cheap here) and the larger wood-fired whole house furnaces. The funny thing is that the chimney professionally installed would be $1500... this is more than the cost of some of the stoves I looked at!

Anyone here remember that old 80's movie "Corvette Summer" featuring a jazzed-up candy-apple red Corvette?

I'd have to say a "famous" individual Corvette modified or used in a movie, TV show, or event would be far rarer than any off-the-assembly-line model.

America got to know & love 80s TransAms thanks to Knight Rider, Ferrari 308s (Magnum PI), Deloreans (Back to the Future), Dodge Charger(?) (Dukes of Hazzard)... but I can't think of any other shows or movies that featured the Corvette??

I wouldn't go moving a ROPS from another model onto yours. Not only do bolts have to line up exactly, but small models may not have as strong a ROPS as larger ones.

Not clear on what is bothering you: is it that you were expecting a foldable ROPS? Or that you think they gave you the wrong size ROPS for your model?

If you're unclear what should've come with your model, can you inquire at another kubota dealer or call corporate Kubota for help?

Honestly I'd pay that if I was sure it would do what I needed it to do. Do you have a website for them? I searched and didn't find much.

Leaving poo out in the pasture isn't pretty, it feeds the flies, and it keeps horse worm level high. My back is no longer up to hand-shoveling it. There's got to be a better way.

Nah this is actually the first time I called anyone about him. Despite my complaining to you all, I don't like to cause trouble for others.

If he called the cops on me before I wasn't aware of it. He likes to be sneakier calling Motor Vehicles, the HOA, and probably other little government agencies... it's the best he can do since I never break any laws.

Dog WAS inside, still terrifed & barking. I couldn't get to sleep for work because of the barking and the noise.

You can't imagine how loud these fireworks were, even inside the house. They must've been overstock from the dynamite factory they were THAT loud. I've been to community fireworks displays before and never heard such noise. I think the nummy was using the largest size he could get and detonating them too low.

Horses are a tough problem to solve. Decent tranqilizers require a vet, especially cause one of them is an older draft. Not easy to get a vet out on a holiday Sunday night. Somehow I don't see him offering to pay the $150 vet visit for this either. And either way he never gives notice when he's going to be a butthead, so I can't plan ahead.

I fainted when I saw this. How do they expect anyone to be able to make ends meet with such a huge tax burden?!

One of my fears of staying here is that when the house is paid off, by then the property taxes will be so high I'll need a 2nd job just to keep my own home. The government is out of control!

My last house, a historic house in a small town in Delaware, had a tax bill of about $500 a year including Town taxes... but that was 8-9 years ago.

Would anyone object if I caught his cats, dyed them purple, and let them loose to go back home?
