how would you all compare the L3010 to the L3130, is there much difference in size and preformance. Am I better off buy a new L3130 or a use 2000 L3010 for $5000 less???<br>

The likely scenario for a high hour tractor is one cylinder gets worn, has broken, worn or stuck rings, or stuck valves, and although it isn't running right, the engine will still run and the user doesn't notice because it is a gradual progression (or digression). As the hours pile up, another cylinder starts to go, at this point it still may start and run and still be useful. Finally the last cylinder gets bad enough that the tractor either smokes excessively, uses a lot of oil, won't pull what it is supposed to, or won't start. Then it seems to the user that it got bad all of a sudden when it really had been coming for a while.

I'm rebuilding a '52 Super C. Just today, I bolted the head back on and noticed one of the valves wasn't closing completely. Even then, it was showing about 50 psi on that cylinder (cranking by hand). I'm not sure how an engine could show as low as 25 psi. Make sure the throttle is open completely and crank until the gauge doesn't progress.

Had to replace the shear pin (!) on my grass catcher today. Didn't hit any thing (that I know of), just vacuming up leaves. <br>

The pin is on the rear u-joint yolk where it attaches to the 1st gear box. (See pic link, cover is on the left end of the drive shaft.) Remove a small cover and line everything up and drive out the borken one. The manual calls for a 1/4-20 X 1-1/2 screw with a nut on it for a shear pin. That lasted for the first start-up and it broke too. Wound up having to go the the New Holland Dealer (gasp!) to find a 1/4 x 1-1/2 pin with a spline in the middle of it to drive into the hole. I think that is what was there to begin with and it worked fine for the rest of the day.<br>

Anyone with one of these Grass Catchers ever broken the pin before? Is this the correct type of pin for this application, or should I do something differant?

I've got a few hours on this new chipper from Bailey's, model BC6PTH, so I thought I would send a few comments out. It is made by GME Idaho, Bailey's just puts their stickers on it. I also put up some pictures for anyone curious, linked below.<br>

I looked at a number of chippers to run from my Kubota B2710 (20HP PTO) and decided to go with a lighter weight unit, with hydraulic brush dragger. My chipper experience has been with Brush Bandits (rentals), a 6" PTO model and a 9" self powered, and while very robust, they were just overkill for my situation. I was warned away from the Chinese made chipper, for quality control reasons.<br>

The BC6 weighs in at 900 lbs, and is about the limit of what I would want on the back of this tractor. I was not expecting this model to have the very strong brush dragging capability of the Brush Bandits, which have two massive rollers in a spring loaded crushing configuration. Here there is only a single grabber which is self weighted (ie one can lift it by hand). Indeed, it requires more work to put through the worst brushy hardwoods. But otherwise it does OK with most things. At some point, I might consider putting extra spring weight on the dragger to help it out.<br>

I considered 4" machines also, but the rating of the cutter was not so important as the size of the feedchute. The material we chip is leafy, hard, and full of branches. We also shred wet, heavy, viney things as well, and I was happy to see it does well with that, the limiting factor there being the blower. We saw the Brush Bandits get clogs in their discharge chutes with that sort of material from gulping down too much at once.<br>

I was pleased to see that this size tractor handles the chipping well. Keeping the rpms up is crucial to blade life, and the Kubota did not budge in its RPMs as we fed through some larger hardwood logs. I don't need to chip much actual 6" material, but our very soft green manure trees should go through fine, judging from the experience so far. I use the feed control to slow things down a bit on the biggest stuff, but would love to find a way to adapt the automatic feed rate control that is on Vermeers and others. It definitely saves on knife wear. The 6" Brush Bandit I used was on a JD 1050 and was lugged down many times with big logs. I think that led to the eventual demise of the PTO clutch.<br>

I like that fact that all the covers and chute are very easily removable. Clearing a discharge clog should be easier than the Brush Bandits. Also the knife access is very simple. The discharge chute is quite short, so one needs to be careful in walking around it.<br>

In selecting this model, I wanted to have reversible feed control. But the way they designed the mechanical linkage was pretty rinky-dink. A standard hand operated hydraulic valve was used, and the feed control bar was just linked to that. Thus the operator has a much larger lever arm acting against the stops in the hydraulic valve than was intended. I know from experience that the feed control bar tends to get slammed around quite hard, and I thought this would eventually damage the valve. So I added a couple of tabs to act as positive stops on the feed control bar itself that take the stress off the valve stops. I do hope they improve that in the future.<br>

Otherwise I think that the quality is good. For instance,they are very concerned that the cutter blade bolts are tightened properly, so they provide a torque wrench for that purpose. And not just a throw away item either, but an actual quality tool. The drive components look robust enough, but only time will tell how the belt does. The sheet metal generally is not as thick as the Brush Bandit, but I doubt that is going to cause problems. It seems to be reinforced at the right places.<br>

I would recommend this to anyone using it on their own farm, who can keep an eye on blade sharpness, and generally how its doing. If you want something to rent out to inexperienced operators, then the Brush Bandits and other heavy weights are probably what you want. While expensive, I suspect I'll get a lot of hours from it.

The frame of your tractor says that with little work on most any subframe hoe could easily be adapted to your tractor. I'd stay at nine foot for a maximum reach although with a loader on the front you might be able to run a little more. Curtis, Sims, Laurin and most all major cab companies have long ago discontinued building cabs for that vintage of a tractor. I don't believe that they had a factory cab for that tractor but the might have but you might be able to find a wind breaker at TSC and many dealers have access to them.

Frank, some of the different models we've had to out source from the manufacturers parts system to find them. When you have the right tools you can build most anything you can figure out. A jig saw, drill and a circular saw wouldn't get you to far on a pitman!

I'd start with the glow plug system. I think they also used had a decompressor working off the cam shaft to increase the cranking speed. Any idea as to the hours?

I have a 33D with 200 hrs---something to look for if yours has them too: the rubber elbows connecting the hyd. cooler lines to the cooler. My neighbor's split their sides and lost nearly all the fluid. Mine are split in several places with the cords showing---time to replace them and quick! According to my neighbor they are just heater hose elbows and not intended for hyd. fluid. Also if you do any brush hogging in heavy brush or trees watch for not-totally cut down trees standing back up between the front axle and the hydraulic fliter on the left side---mine got nearly skewered and gushed out gallons of fluid.

Power service has allways been my favorite, but get it in now before it's really cold, it doesn't seem to mix too well when the fuel gets super cold. I've beeen puting a jug in the tank the last couple times before the fuel man comes that way I know it's in the sytems of all the equipment. I've seen the gasoline thing done in a pinch situation to get something going, but it never looked goood to me. Frank.

Hi Alan,
I think I have the Mitsubishi diesel engine you need. I was going to install it in another project but found a Kubota diesel engine for it. I'm more familiar with Kubotas because others happen to be used on some other equipment I've used. Both brands of these diesels are incredibly good and appear very similar. For my use, it felt more comfortable going with the Kubota in case something ever gave trouble I'd have another available for side-by-side comparison and even parts swapping if it came to that. So I still have the Mitsubishi diesel.

Well, I went and purchased the bale spear and used it last night and it worked great. I did have to turn the lower pins inward because the lower arms would not swing out far enough. I backed it into a 4'x4' approx. 700lb bale and lifted it right up. The bx22 did not even flinch. I considered putting weight in the loader to offset it but found that it wasn't necessary. Worked like a charm. King Cutter cat 1 at TSC for 170.00.

Another fuel additive success story!

Glad to hear you are back up and running.

I wondered if the fuel might have thickened due to seasonal temperature changes.

In terms of the small fittings, that engine only burns about 1/2 gallon of fuel per hour running flat out. A 1/4 inch orifice would drain the tank by gravity in a few minutes so it provides plenty of flow to the fuel pump.

When we bought our x595, the dealer brought a 585 out for us to use while waiting on ours to get in. The 585 performed great for us. We cut a lot of grass on hilly, sloping land and even with a 62" deck, it never even chugged down at all going up the hills/slopes.
The HS made it great for mowing around the 40 some fruit trees we have.
We ordered the 595 for the diesel engine and ended up with SE edition for the seat that came with it - big extra cost but when you're mowing 4-5 hours on it, it made a huge difference.
