Sounds to me like a leaking lift cylinder or could be bad control or relief valve.

Wow, that's what I've been needing here to move some bigger downed trees around with. I'm anxious to see what you guys figure out with the PHD idea.

They show a log splitter on that web site - any of you ever built one? Is it difficult and do you have a set of plans for one?

It sure would beat a splitting maul!

I believe that on flat ground the lurch is minimal to non existant. On starting up an incline from a full stop it is just about impossible not to get a small amount of lurch in high gear. Maybe Art can try some of his on a grade and let us know what he finds.

I have an JD X595SE Diesel mower and a JD Gator 4x4. I bought a front blade when I got the 595, is this the same blade used on a Gator? Would this blade hook up to my Gator?<br>

Thanks for the replies, just wanted to add more details so reccomendations may be more accurate for my situation. I had to cut and fill to get level ground I was shooting for a 40 x 60 building but when the excavator was done, we realized a 45 x75 would fit so that is what I ordered. All top soil was stripped and sub-soil was used for pad. Soil was loamy with mica , not a lot of clay or sand or rock. Compaction was done with 955 cat with narrow tracks as it was filled. Site sat for a year to settle and then I layed fabric and 3/4" crushed stone about 4" deep. The building is all steel I-beam type. When the building came, we cut holes in the fabric and excavated (8) 4'x4' pits for the uprights and poured 12" of concrete with rebar frames coming out the center, then 2'x 18" forms up to finished floor grade with the anchor bolts. The reason I now have 2-6" of stone is the concrete trucks pumped the muck under the fabric as they drove over. We had a very wets pring. The building has been up for about 1.5 years and the dirt is very hard under the fabric. I tried my jumping jack and it wouldn't budge, just pulverized the fabric. The tin on the sides sets 1.5 inches below finished floor grade. I planned on bracing it on the outside with wood and putting plactic sheets on the inside and pouring right to the wall to fill the corrugation pattern of the tin. A purlin is 12" above floor grade. At the very least I wanted to put plactic down under the concrete, possibly double bubble foil/plastic insulation or 1" foam sheets. I worry about the foam because of the tight tolerance to finished grade and getting enough concrete in. I may heat part later but not on a regular basis. What is a rat wall and why would I want one? Never heard one mentioned in this area by any builders/ masons. We are zone 6 near the edge of 7. rarely gets to 0 F and pipes only go 36" deep to insure no freeze Most frost I have seen is 12-18"

Okay, I made it through changing the engine oil/filter, fuel filter, but changing the transmission, rear axle, and hydraulic system oil raises some questions.<br>
1) The drain plug(s) location on the class II HST bottom view is lousy (too small and very light) Is there another diagram on the WEB?<br>
2) Is there excess oil in the HST and hydraulic filters so it spills all over when you remove them?<br>
3) Are the transmission and HST oil system connected together?<br>
4) If you can only drain out 7 gallons of fluid, should you only put 7 gallons back in?<br>
5) Should you change the filters before the fluid? Just like car oil/filter change?<br>
6) How much fluid can you expect to drain out? The TC33DA has a capacity of 8.8 gallons<br>

I have a 970 with approx 400 hrs that cuts out the engine briefly on an intermittent basis. If I don't hit the clutch it'll shut down and I can then restart it as if nothing happened. If I press the clutch it won't stall and if I'm bush-hogging the momentum of the cutter will usually keep it from stalling. It's as if the swithch is being turned off for a split second. Has anyone had experience with this problem in this type of tractor?

I'll look for the Excel sheet. We use an Excel program for uplift/axial reations for roof mounted derrick and tower cranes. Just watching him work through the model was great fun. Watching gears turn inside the kid's head was even more for than watching them turn in a tractor. How about that.

We sell Jd and Farmoyl at our store. Farmoyl has a really nice oil called premier 2000. It is a partial synthetic and a 10-30 probably flows better than a straight 10 wt. the price is only about 1/3 more than regular oil. We use the same oil in our pickups and our shop tractor that sits outside on nights that get down to -20 below. You can really really tell the difference. Not sure where you live but if you can find a farmoyl dealer you will be very happy.
Another trick you might think of is buying a magnetic oil pan heater. I'm pretty sure that the pan has a "flat spot" that you could stick one on. You could put a timer on the heater to come on about 2-3 hours before you might use it in the morning. It will warm from the bottom up and really really get the oil flowing fast.

These tractors have a wet clutch, and the synchro transmission would not scrape when going in gear if the gears were still turning slowly, but the collar shift with the wet clutch could be still turning slowly due to the hyd. fluid moving it. Mine is a 99 model collar shift and it is worse when it is cold than it is when it is hot. It is something that you will probably have to live with or trade it. They are pretty tough transmissions.

I have a IH loader that is a pull latch type, that u lower to latch back after dumping. It went on a M or H, and i have the brakets, but no cylinders. I was wondering how much it would be worth when i sell it.
