Sounds like an interesting engineering project. I wish mine had been that interesting.

The reason tractor weight wasn't a significant factor is because CG calculations factor in mass right from the start. Raw weight really isn't seperable as an independent variable.

The heavy stuff is really where a hydro can show off. You can slow the forward speed down to almost nothing which effectively frees up more engine power to the PTO. Slower forward speed also means the hog is taking less material at the same time as the PTO is getting a "power boost".

I do not know how I would fell trees and move logs anymore without the PTO winch on the front of my '61 Scout. If one has a lot of such work to do, I would highly recommend investing in a good winch, either for truck or tractor mounting. I have seen 3-point mounted winches that are designed for logging and look like they would do a nice job. Probably a little pricey, though.

I have the tractor at the shop and you are correct in that it is the bolt however they tell me that there is a new kit that replaces the old one and that the new kit is $600 and labor to install (2 days) is another $1200. that's crazy, but it looks like I am stuck...or am I...what do you think. thanks for your help. Scott

If your rear tires are already loaded and the rear blade isn't heavy enough, can you just hang some weights on your backblade ?
I hang John Deere front end weights on my backblade and boxblade. (45 LB weights)
Helps keep the tractor more stable, plus makes the blade cut in better if needed, and the weights are easy to move from implement to implements or remove if I don't need them.

if so, warranty should cover a service call
if not ,this dealer doesn't want a long term customer.
my dealer sent a mech out to take the tires off to have them repaired so the truck used for delivery wasn't tied up and they are 60 miles away !!!!!

Just be sure to set the backhoe down and run the control sticks (tractor shut off)to relieve the pressure on the lines before you remove it.

Sounds like you have done your homework. A number of guys on this board have BX23's with backhoes. My preference has always been to have a little bit larger tractor especially with a BH. In your case going larger may not be better if you need to drive close to or under your trees. Is the BH on the sub-compact going to meet your needs. It's not my call but is it limited in reach and capacity?

Doing as Murf has indicated is very important. You should also know that the 3 point hitch has some anti-sway bars at the lift arms. You should adjust the turn buckles such that the plow when in the up position can be wiggled sideways at the moldboards about 3 to 4". That makes the installation not so stiff that you can correct for steering adjustments.

Being that this can sway, every time you enter a new furrow the plow will sway that amount and your furrow will not be straight for long. To compensate for that when you begin to drop the plow, place the R front wheel in the furrow and the inside of the R rear tire on top of the furrow by about 3". After you drive a few feet the tire will drop in the furrow and you will have a straight start.

Us farm boys like absolutely straight furrows just like we like straight wheelmarks when mowing lawns. These tips are for the next time you plow since it sounds like you are already done for the year.

P.S. The looseness in the sway mechanism is also good for when you are discing. You could give yourself even more looseness than plowing. If you set it too loose, your lift arms may rub against the insides of the rear tires. You don't want to do that. Be careful about not putting too much of a sideload on the hitch. With a 3 point attached disc, I generally lift it on the corners to take most of the strain out of it but leave it engaged enough to cover your tracks. Don't drive over anything more often than necessary. You will find the tractor will compact the soil. You can also overwork it by doing it more often than necessary and excessively dryout the soil when working in the spring.

Mike, you cannot add 'down-pressure' to a standard 3pth, some tractors, mostly Russian and eastern European models have it but the 'normal' 3pth we have on the vast majority of tractors is incapable of exerting down-pressure because the lift arms can rise above the hydraulics that lift them freely.

A box blade, or most other implements are best if they are just wider than the rear tires so as to cover your tracks.

As for weight, the 3pth has lift capacities, and the front end will come up off the ground if you exceed the ballast at the other end.

I just finished augering over 150 fence post holes with my 7800. I bought a Speeco Ager and bit from TSC and it did a great job in our soil; gravely sand with a lot of roots. It went through the toughest roots and soil easily.<br>

Paid $374 for the Digger, and $98 for a 9" Auger. The auger has replaceable cuting tips.<br>

Also check out Worksaver/Farmstar. They also have hydraulic diggers that mount on your FEL, but for a considerable cost premium. If your soil is sandy, or gravely sand, a 3pt digger will work fine. Many have had trouble using 3pt augers in hard clay. I didn't run into anything I couldn't drill through.<br>

I would recommend a hydraulic side link if you go with the 3-pt type digger. It was a huge help in plumbing the auger on uneven ground.

AV8R , sorry I wasn't watching this post to much. Thru the years I haven't found but one company that didn't take care of a warrantee problem but we joke that they don't do any. There product is some of the best made but we just eal with the warrantee and hope that they don't or we don't get caught in a large problem. Dealers that didn't,yes but the company normally does.There are times that warrantee work is questionable, meaning it could have been operator error, at that point I think the dealer that sold you the tractor or knows you the best would be the strongest ally you could have. Relationships are important in all parts of life and when trouble does come, it is important to know who to call for the best results.
