My TracVAc 880 pull behind has close to 4.5 times more capacity than the Kubota grass catcher. It has a 8" intake/exhaust and 8" hose that never clogs. It has a steel blower assy. and 1/4" eight blade impeller vs the polyethylene impeller and blower assy found on the Kubota.

I spend less time dumping and there are no bags to mess with. Just back the trailer up, remove the rear door, release the tilt handle and pull away. The material slides right out and it only takes several minutes.

If you have a lot of leaves to collect, get the pull behind. I paid $2300 and it's worth every penny.

1*have probably settled on a BX23 with a belly mount 54" mower,
2*and 1 set of Bar and Turf tires + rims to start it off.
3*Is resale good?

1*I just bought a new BX23 4 weeks ago. It's all and more than I expected.
The tractor loader and back hoe with a 60'' belly mount mower ran me 15500.
I would go with the 60" mower over the 54" one. It was only about a hundred dollars more than the 54" mower when I got my tractor.
I Got the AG Tires on mine and they seem to be just fine for me as I don't mow the lawn when the grass is wet.
2*I don't see any need for 2 sets of tires and rims. Who wants to go around switching wheels all the time anyway?
3*They do hold their value very well.
The down side to this is the high resale value can cause people to buy new rather than used. That's why I bought new. There wasn't enough difference between the new and used prices.
4*I justified it because It's what I wanted and I had the money for it.
5*If you want to see John Deer compact tractors you have to go to a real JD dealer.
Home Depot is a far cry from a JD dealer.
All you saw there were riding mowers because they don't sell compact tractors.
6*I have enough work to keep my BX 23 busy all summer next year.
I have 2 pole buildings to fill in and level up the floors before poring the concrete floors.
I have maybe 3 to 5 or more truck loads of dirt to move from digging 2 fairly long drainage ditches.
I want to line these ditches and I will need the end loader to back fill along both sides of the ditches.
I have yard work to do filling in some low places and I need to slope the back fill around the buildings so water will floe away from the foundations when it rains.
I have about 150 to 200 feet of ditching to remove 4'' plastic pipe and replace it with 6 or 8 inch drain pipe then backing filling this project.
I have an area about 100 by 100 that is densely grown up with 2 to 6 inch trees I want to remove and convert it to lawn.

My only regret is that I didn't get something like this 20 years ago.
I was dealing on a new kubota back then and got a steel it price of 12500 on a 21000 dollar Tractor with FEL Hoe and rear mount mower. It was the Biggest B series they had at the time.
The financing fell through and I never had another opportunity to get one until now.
I had the chance to get one now and wasn't going to let it get away again.LOL

I'd agree with that. If you can run a 6' finish mower you can likely run a 5' brush mower.
I run a 6' brush mower, I also run a 6' finish mower. Hoping to get a 7' finish mower in the future $$ permitting..

When I bought my 790 two years ago, the dealer knocked 15% off the list price, then later said the markup wasn't actually that much and he had goofed, but still sold it at the price he quoted. The price you were given for a 4 year old 790 is way high. My new 790, used MX-5, and new FEL totaled a little over $14,000. Luckily, Mo. doesn't charge sales tax if the tractor is being used "agriculturally", so that also saved a bunch.

I have had my 4110 now for about 3 to 4 months, and love it. The FEL is a brezze to take off and put on. I would say I do it in about 4 to 5 mins at the most. I have one little bracket on front that is safty item I guess that adds one more step than my old 455 had. The hose hook up and the latch system is great. Supper. You will love it. Just an after thought I have a 12 ft. trailer and I get my tactor and bucket and real blade on it by going up backwards and hanging the blade off the front of the trail. but I am going to step up to a 16 footer. 12 is too small. Good luck and get the bucket.

I can hereby testify as I type before you that the King Kutter 72" mower deck is worth the money you pay for it. I have had one for over 2 years now and other then bogging the darn thing down in very tall wet grass and eliminating the belt(oops) I have not had a single issue nor a complaint. It is a side discharge and I have found that in tall grass (greater then 8") it will leave a line of uncut grass where the middle and left blades meet, but other than that it does a nice cut, I found that removing the guard on the discharge side eliminates that problem( I dont recommend that if you have bystanders or nearby windows.). I slightly modified the 3pt on mine to fit my quickhitch by moving the links to the inside as opposed to where they were intended to go, and have not had any problems with it. I can hitch it up in about 5 minutes and be on my way cutting. There are grease fittings on every moving part, has multi position wheels, and even on my very uneven ground I seldom encounter scalping, there is one area that will scalp, but that is because it is alongside the road next to a ditch and has a heavy crown. One thing I tried was to put quick release clips on the wheels so I cuold easily adjust them, but found the clips can be removed by an errant bush and I wind up losing the wheel, first time Idid that I sucked it up with the mower and destroyed the tire and rim :(. Since then I have found I dont need to make adjustment and put the original pins back in. All in all it has been a very good buy for me and I expect it to last me a very long time.

It's the old "sometimes ya' can't see the forest for the trees story"...

I was helping a neighbour the other morning with some firewood and he was complaining about the hassle (weight, spillage, etc.) with filling his tractor from 5 gallon cans. He was saying it might be time to get a tank & pump, because the 5 gal. cans were getting too heavy.

My suggestion made him laugh so hard he had to sit down.

Buy a second 5 gallon can, take them both to the store and fill each one only half full. Now each container weighs half as much, and since it is not full to the top getting the spout in the filler opening without spilling is fairly easy because you can tip the can so far over before the fuel reaches the spout.

We even took the thing one step (literally) further, he had some leftover P.T. lumber from a deck he had built and we whipped up a small stoop basically, a platform 3' x 3' two steps up off the ground. Now he has a stable place to stand that is easy to get up onto & down from instead of trying to balance on the front tire while refueling.

Wacky ideas are still free, even the ones that work...

Had a similar problem when my TC29 was delivered. I parked it in my garage and went to Vegas the next day. It failed to start upon my return so dealer came and repaired that problem. I noticed a spot of oil on the floor on the right side shortly after but could not find a leak. I found the leak when I went to use it, sprayed out a hydraulic fitting for the bucket curl cylinder. Check all the fittings for moisture. Don't do it with the machine running unless you have heavy gloves on.

I have a 4300 and the exact same thing happened. I bought the tractor used and when inspecting it discovered the corrosion on the oil cooler. I used it as a barganing point and touched up the grill and battery as described earlier.

Took delivery of my new TC45DA hydro w/FEL (w/quick couplers) last Saturday morning. It came from the dealer with a half tank of fuel and clean as a whistle. The salesman, who also was the guy who delivered the rig, gave me a brief, albiet thorough orientation, tossed me a couple of pins and a top link bolt, and left. I proceeded to hook-up a Ferguson double-bottom I borrowed and hit the field.<br>

I only got a couple hours in before having to stop for other pursuits but was instantly gratified at how well and smoothly the tractor performed. I realized that by putting the hydro into low/low (turtle), and keeping the rpms in the 2000-2200 range, I could engage the cruise control and basically only have to steer. My pasture hasn't been worked for several years and the grass was thick, but we just purred along.<br>

Sunday was a different story since it had rained overnight and was still raining lightly in the morning. We're about at the point in the Willamette Valley where we'll have more wet than dry days. However, I hopped on and picked up where I left off. As long as I had the two left wheels on unbroken grass, with the right wheels in the prior pass plow trough, she still just plugged along. There were maybe a few times, usually while turning, when the wheels started slipping but I just raised the plow a might and continued on, dropping it back immediately.<br>

It's rained off and on since Sunday and I've been out for an hour or so the last three nights. There have been moments plowing on slope with the lights that I've wondered if I bit off more than I could chew, but never puckered up too much and by backing off on the pedal and turning the wheels and then reapplying power, I've recovered from all near misses without mishap.<br>

I'm at nearly 9 hours on the meter, have coated the rig with dirt and clay and hosed it off each time. It feels tight, strong, and I couldn't be happier at this point with my selection of the Boomer.

My guess is that the key (no pun intended) to this whole situation is that Bob wants us to pretend his wife misplaced that key...

So he will probably have to pretend that he has her sweep out the shop for a few months, Then hope she does not see these posts implicating her or he will have to pretend he is sleeping in his nice warm bed while he is actually bunking out in his shop.

I am purchasing an ATV and it comes with a 2500lb Warn winch. I would think that the charging system on the CUT has more capacity than the ATV. I know the CUT has a higher capacity battery than the ATV. Mounting might be your biggest challenge, keeping it out of the way of other item attachment points.

Ardician, if you have a drawbar of the type that goes between the two lower arms, use that AND the fixed drawbar beneath the PTO.

The way to do it is to put a chain around the log base and forwards to the lower drawbar such that the tractor end of the log is just behind the upper drawbar and there is very little slack in the chain. Nowput either the leftover chain, or a second chain, between the end of the log and the upper drawbar with the 3pth down low nearly touching the log. Theen you lift the 3pth a LITTLE bit and lift the lead edge of the log up off the ground just slightly, but the actual forward pull will still be from the lower drawbar.

Since the lower drawbar is below the centerline of the axle, any sudden increase in the load from the log will NOT tend to lift the front of the tractor.

USe EXTREME caution when pulling anything with the tractor, even more so a log or other object like that. A downhill could cause the log to rear-end you. The second chain to the upper drawbar should do a lot to prevent it. Also be sure that any 'spectators' are WELL away from the work area, a log can and WILL roll sideways suddenly if that is the path of least resistance.

Thanks for the reply Hardwood. It would seem that the rotary cutter width is the key issue with respect to tractor capacity and not the weight. (within reason) Steel prices have really pushed up costs lately. I wanted the heaviest duty possible rotary cutter. The best price I have found on an MX5 is $1600 locally. The Woods 6000 or the 600 Brush Bull as well as the Bush Hog 305 seems to be some good choices as well. I still have to get an up close look at them. I would imagain the Woods 6000 is over $2,000. I'll post more when I figure out what I decide to go with.
