Thanks guys,think I will pick up some tommorrow as it would seem that this one oil can replace all except 2 stroke for me as well. Simplifies my "stock". It seems to me, by reading the specs, that I should bee able to use this year round. Any thoughts on that?

I need a wheel axel for this 1700 model tractor, itis suppose to be a 1979. The dealership says the are no longer made. Was hoping someone would possibly know of one for parts.

We have Mexican, Jamaican and Haitian labourers at the farm, I hire them on occaissionally to help with big jobs, like we have going now cleaning up after floods from the left-overs of the hurricanes coming through.

They all work very hard, mind you though, we're VERY fussy about who we hire.

They're a bunch of hard-working people trying to make a better life for their families.

They also can't believe how much they get paid and how easy the work is, compared to what they'd be doing back home.

We see so many messages from customers who are unsatisfied with their dealer, I thought I'd offer a satisfied story.<br>

Saturday my LX5 cutter stopped cutting. Even though it's a slip-clutch unit, a bolt just forward of the gearbox had sheared off. I called the dealer and talked to the salesman. The problem didn't sound like what was described in the owner manual regarding a seized clutch. The salesman insisted on coming out and replacing the bolt as he said it didn't sound right to him either.<br>

Long story short, he drove 20 miles to my place this AM, replaced the bolt and eased the clutch bolts before he drove the now 50 miles to get to the dealership to go to work.<br>

If I were you I would not limit myself to Kubota. The Deere 4115 is an awesome tractor and about the same price. Has position control, functional turning brakes, a neater loader attacment and joystick, as well as a better in my humble opinion forward reverse pedal layout.

Just my two cents, also I think you can safely finance without any worry.

I have a 5" CCM tiller on my 790. Good price and heavy duty constuction. Gear driven rather than chain drive. I have a one bottom plow that I use. I really don't know if it could handle anything bigger.

Thanks for the prompt response.

I guess I need to get a parts book for both models and do a comparison. Seems to me that the M4900 will have some sort of mechanical or electronic limiter to prevent the RPM from going above the max rated for that model. Traditionally, from a wear and stress standpoint, the lower Rs on a tractor would seem like a good idea, but with a 5 cylinder engine, spinning it up a bit more would not seem to be a problem.

That is just a heavy duty 3" pump in a specialized floating frame.

A 3" trash pump will work just fine, if you want to go bigger than that, or if you don't expect to need to use it very often, you might want to look into renting one. The other pump you have is all you need for the agitation line, a 1" or bigger hose with a strong stream spray is more than enough to loosen the material and get into suspension.

If you can find, or even borrow, a small irrigation pump from a farmer in the area they work really well too, then you can justify the tractor even more.

I employed a semi-retired machine operator a few years back, he had spent MANY years on a dozer doing highway construction.

He said that way back when they had a very crude 'tilt-meter' on the dozer for doing the embankments and slopes along the road. It was a piece of heavy copper wire in the form of an oval hanging from the canopy, in the center a heavy brass plumb-bob hung from another copper wire. The loop and plumb-bob were a crude switch which sent power to a truck backup alarm over the operators head in the canopy. When the dozer got too close to it's balance point the plumb-bob swung over far enough to touch the loop and set off the alarm.

Problem was he claimed it gave the operators so much confidence that they pushed the limits too far. Apparently one operator was killed when he tried to work a hill that was very steep, the alarm didn't go off, so he kept working, except he hit a soft spot and the machine started to slide, when enough dirt built up under the bottom side and the machine started to roll.

Bottom line, the 'pucker meter' is probably your best safety device, when it feels uncomfortable, STOP.

I agree with Art, a box blade would be different, it's easy to really load them up, but a rear blade is not a lot of load on a tractor, and the extra width out past the rear wheels is nice,

I contacted Larry Lutz this morning via email after he posted on this thread about his fix and have requested info. I spoke with my dealer this a.m. He is familiar with the problem and to his knowledge Cub Cadet does not have a recommended fix. His point is that Cub uses the voltage running through the ignition key to operate all of the safety switches and after it has passed through all of these, it must then finally trigger the starter solenoid. If conditions aren't perfect, you can get a substantial voltage drop and with the lack of power all you get is a clicking noise. The fix that Larry Lutz and Abbeywoods mentioned solves this, since a relay is placed in the circuit after going through the safety switches. A lower voltage can trigger the relay but then it gives full battery voltage to the starter solenoid.

My dealer is mainly AG related for Case/IH equipment and sells Cub Cadet and Toro lawn equipment. The service guy says that combines have a relay system as is suggested for this fix. Combines have long wires and lots of circuits that cannot be run directly off of the key.

I would not recommend by passing the safety switches, particularly the PTO's. That is too dangerous. I know too many people with missing fingers, hands and arms. You think it will never happen to you but in an instant, it can and does happen even to the best of us. You life will never be the same again!

The XB arms are made for the standard 26" spacing, but are a little shorter. Raise your 3pt, measure the clearance from the ground to the center of the pin holes. Compare that to the pin height on the tiller, just to be sure you can raise it enough. The face to face dimension would be a little tougher without actually mounting the tiller. Most PTO shafts can be cut enough to make it work though.

Sounds like Tractor experienced what I did. I use Ad-alert rather than Spy-bot, and fairly regularly. I suppose it only takes one of those data miner things though. I'm not sure my computer will tolerate any more monitoring of traffic than it already has. I imagine that virus plus firewall monitoring already degrade performance.

I'll avoid a rant on the subject since everybody likely knows the words by heart. I believe I will take care to only leave one talk board at a time open.

Starter parts are expensive too. A bunch of starts with short operating times between them also is hard of batteries.

If it puffs gray exhaust more than normal after idling then it's cooling down and a faster idle would be good. Even so, it's probably to shorten oil change intervals is a tractor is going to do a bunch of idling. I think oil contamination is the main reason some people say to avoid prolonged idling.

Hello Dealer in Ohio:

I am in the process to buy a used 430 from another dealer in Ohio. Following the responses to your ad, I am not interested in anything else but your sale. I am in need of a front loader that attaches to the above mentioned tractor. In the worst case (for me), I will purchase a new one from Steiner.
