I just made my own pigtail harness, finally. The connectors on the hood harness will accept simple male 1/4" spade terminals, and I found some pins from another style of connector in the shop stock that would mate with the connector at the 2910 headlight socket. Some heatshrink tubing, a couple ty-raps to keep things connected, and viola': better headlights, without having to molest the 7800 originals. I'll be upgrading to the 35W halogens next time I get by the hardware store. <br>

I also got tired of hanging my elbow on the SMV sign every time I turned around, and having it cut down my vision to the rear, so I removed the mount plate from the ROPS and mounted the SMV sign receiver directly to the back of the seat. Why they didn't do that from the factory, I'll never know. But at least now I have an unobstructed view and access to the rear...

The hitch capacity is listed as 889 pounds with the load centered 24 inches behind the draft arm. That is very comparable with any other tractor in this weight class. It does have a smaller hydraulic pump than newer compact tractors, but is plenty for most applications. Does it have power steering? When power steering is added to these tractors, It does slow things down a bit because it uses about 2 gpm to the steering valve that would ordinarily go to other functions. As far as horsepower, I am amazed at how well these tractors perform with 60" decks. Without hydrostatic pumps robbing power, you need less hp than you might think. It is also carrying around alot less weight than the newer models. overall, it is a very reliable model.

for hard packed solid surfaces, it really is the number of sharp edges biting in. In europe they use heavily siped snow tires that would put all american snows to shame. R-1's and r-4's are both awful in hard slippery situations that involve a SLOPE. My r-1's with calcium and diff locked would not move where all of my cars with 2wd drove easily. My drive is gravel so chains turn my tractor into a whole other machine. Most turfs would be better on hard surfaces, but some have lugs with rounded edges and they are no better than the others. If it were just the "more tire on the ground" issue, I would be throwing away my size 11 vibrum lug work boots and getting some size 16 basketball sneakers at the foot locker when it came time to shovel.

I would agree with the other posts, you need more weight capacity, it you have the machine to move it loaded. I have a pronovost 5' x 8' dump trailer for off road( they do make on road). http://www.pronovost.qc.ca/remhra.html It is rated for 5 tons and dumps left, right, and rear. I love it. I use the side dumps as much as the rear. I do tow it on the road sometimes but at reduced speeds, you don't need lights, breaks or registration here for off-road(used on the road), just an orange triangle. Check out their web site. They are very well made.

I would not even consider the 2wd. Every time you are stuck you will want to kick yourself in the ass, I do. Resale value is not good for 2wd and the pool of potential buyers is tiny compared to 4wd. A loader without 4wd is for the 1970's, leave it there. Have the dealer bring the one you want out to demo. Have him bring the closest thing in a hydrostatic transmission to try also. You may really like it

HAVE A 280 LAND TRAC SAME AS YOURS BUT LITTLE LESS POWER.HAD IT FOR 3 YEARS NO PROBLEMS WITH THE UNIT.WE PICK UP 600 LBS ROUND BALES FOR OUR HORSES AND CATTLE AND USE IT ON ROTARY CUTTER.IT DOES GREAT JOB!HOPE THIS HELPS

One look at the backhoes will tell you there is not much engineering. Functional yes, long lasting, questionable. The machines LOOK completely fabricated in house with only powertrain outsorcing. I have seen them up close. I think they may be fine for homeowner/farm use but question their 2000+ hour life and any good resale value.

I saw a similar problem when working on a friend's pickup truck once. It was less than two years old. It wouldn't crank sometimes; we replaced the battery and it didn't help. I was getting ready to replace the starter when I noticed one of the battery cables was corroded. We stripped some of the insulation back, and the corrosion ran down the cable. It was ruined. Replacing the cable fixed it.

I have to agree with Greg's post regarding the belly mower. I know people with various brands of tractors that have belly mowers and have not heard too much good things. First they reduce ground clearance and are a real pain to remove/install if you want to go over rough terrain. Sure you get a tighter cutting swath but these are big tractors and will still have to mow with a L & G type or push unit to cut where you couldn't reach. Basically a L&G type unit is used only for grass cutting and on even ground, A tractor this size has a various range of uses and if you have a belly mower on it you have defeated its possibilities unless you remve mower. Each has its own purposes. I would a pull behind, easier to hook/unhook, easier to maintain, and makes flexibility easier.
Now for the snow plow,,,,,,,,There might be some out there but not to my knowledge.
I own a 224 Jinma(same China tractor as Nortrac) and was in process of building my own FEL. Well, winter was on its way last year so I temporarally hooked up a 6 1/2' Fisher plow up to the FEL frames. Worked great but still wanted a FEL. Price of steel went thru roof and was cheaper to just buy a FEL and scrap my plans to build my own. I use a back blade also for snow removal so with the FEL I can push snow and move it without getting off tractor. I am going to weld 2 bracket into FEL bucket so I can mount my snow plow and can push in both directions, if I want to move the snow I'll just pull 2 pins and use the bucket. I live in upstate NY and we do get hit with lots of snow so I have to be able to move to quick sometimes as we get hit with storms right after another.
In summary, and in my opine only,,,,,,,get a pull behind mower and get a FEL this way you have flexibility, there are always uses for a FEL year round.

I only have a hydraulic top-link and the tractor already had a rear valve controlled outlet so it was inexpensive. I have a crank 3ph leveler so the tilt isn't so important. Without a hydraulic top-link, grading with a box scraper will take a bunch of time since many top-link adjustments are needed.

Many building supply places sell 'electrical code simplified' books and one would give requirements for buried branch circuits. It'd likely be something like 27" deep, which allows for 3" of fine sand all around the line and conduit for the up and down sections. Add another 12" depth if it goes under a roadway. Planking over the line reduces the depth by 6". It's good to lay marker tape 1' above any buried line so the next person who digs it up will have some warning.

From the sounds of the previous job, the wiring may be a mess and you could find yourself doing a bunch of unexpected things when an inspector gets a look. Better than burning the house down though.

Something I saw several years ago and I haven't thought to try but a fellow had turned the bucket backwards on a hoe to get the teeth under the edges and to pop it up to loosen the shale then went after it with the bucket turned in the normal way. It worked for him on his older unit (non-compact)TLB but I've not seen it done since or before then but it was working.

Sure wish I knew something about this tractor. Most hydraulic systems use a common reservoir in the TX cases for both TX lubrication and hydraulics. As Beagle said, it'd be good to get the level down to full. I wonder how it became that full? Hydraulic oil should be fairly clear or straw coloured and not have much odour. It also shouldn't be frothy after the tractor has run awhile. Frothy often means clogged filters and an unusual appearance or colour means contamination from some source.

A few systems use screens and no filter but most have a filter and many have both. If you find the pump, you'll likely also find the filter. To find the pump, look for a steel line in the vicinity of the 3ph level and trace it forward to the engine. That should be the high-pressure line, although there also can be power-steering and pressure-relief lines. The high-pressure line will lead to the pump but maybe through a manifold block. A larger line (can be steel, rubber or mixed) attached to the pump should be the suction line, and any filter will be in the suction line. However, it's possible that your tractor is nothing like this description. Some NAPA and some box stores have cross-reference filter tables and the tractor may be listed.

Below is the 855 heavy duty 3 pt. hitch kit listed under part # BM18186 and lists for $408. The standard duty hitch kit may be exhausted stock but you can still use the heavy duty hitch. Might be worth a shot. Good luck!

I've never heard anyone bad mouth them . They seem to be good value for the price. I do have two questions however .
What size ( Hp , Model) are you interested in ?

Feeling tippy and being unstable can be two different things. The higher your body is positioned on a machine, the tippier it "feels". The farther your head is from the ground, the more distance it will travel as you tractor rolls over bumps in the ground. That movement of your head will give the feeling of tippy even if the tractor is stable. Wheel weights, keeping the loader low, or off if possible, will lower center of gravity. park it on a hill that feels tippy and get off. Yank on the roll bar to see if it is near its balance point. You may find that it is still fairly stable.
