BigOrange - did you get the remove valve kit installed with Hydraulic lines plumbed to the loader? If so, A grapple will clear tree's & brush quickly.

One point in the hybrids favor was brought up that I'm unclear about. The hybrids certainly produce fewer exhaust emissions than diesels, but when you consider the big picture with hundreds of lbs. of battery waste I'm not sure it's a net environmental benefit. Aren't the batteries toxic waste? What kind of battery technology do they use?

Often the 'old ways' are very efficient and dependable, as this one was.

The trick was that it didn't spray boiling water, it delivered a jet of STEAM.

A small tank of water lasted far longer than I was willing to at the time. It also took very little fuel oil to run it. It used a little air pump gadget like a Coleman stove or lantern runs to make a head of air in the fuel tank and atomize it for burning. I can recall having to periodically pump it back up to get the flame back to full-strength.

It was very safe & effective, but it wasn't much fun waving a steam hose around in hot humid summer weather.

Tell the dealer that you want a loaner machine at no cost until your tractor is ready or a loaner 272 RFM on your 4310. Otherwise you wish to cancel the order. I can understand your frustration. The dealer does not sound like they are being very proactive about this situation. If you have a part number for this bracket; I can try and locate one for you.

Does anyone have a 5000 series with a 60" MMM? If so, how is the cut? Does it handle damp grass without clogging up? How does it handle long grass? I am very interested in purchasing the 5254 or 5234D with a 60" MMM. I presently have a 22hp, 6-speed garden tractor with a 46" deck that cannot handle damp of long grass without clogging and bogging down the engine and makes my lawn look terrible. I want to save time cutting grass and still have a decent looking lawn. I cut just under 3 acres of sloping lawn of varying degrees. <br>

I did try out a 25hp Grasshopper zero turn with a 61" deck on long damp grass and it did a great job, no clogging or bogging down and the lawn looks great. My problem with the zero turn is that it only cuts grass and slips on slopes. Which I did and it really makes you pucker up because once it starts to slide you can't stop it. I slid going down a when I slowed to make a turn to come back up the hill. <br>

So, I think a 4 wheel drive sub-compact with a 60" MMM might be the best choice for me as long as it can handle grass that always seems to be damp without clogging and bogging down. The Cub dealer said it won't be a problem, but I don't know the dealer well enough to know if he will say anything to make a sale.<br>

You guys are incredible. Thanks so much for the information. So the leaning is somewhat normal and some of this will be fixed when I get the new bolt assembly. Good advice on backing the tractor up when I initially make the hole. I was wondering why they always come out at an angle. This has helped.

oddly enough when cutting high grass (under load) the symptom litterally goes away...

I'll go ahead and replace the fuel filter you can see junk in there.

Hey, thanks for all the input on the pricing folks, stevenc is right, there are good price on JD equipment at that dealership, beat any price out here by $1800.00 on the first pass, dont know if shipping is worth it, but if you are in the east, sounds like the place to call.

tnt, Hello from Buffalo county. I have no experience with Kohel but I see they have four locations in the Eau Claire area. There are also JD dealers with CUTs in Mondovi and Durand (actually Arkansaw).

I am aware of the units they mfg for Long and Tafe as far as the Korean made compacts,nice units,Looking for input on their other models which seem to be more diversified than what comes to the US, I thought I read somewhere that they mfg a couple of larger New Holland models. Any input would be helpfull

The jacking frame was a success. Hand operated porta-power jack for now, but the system works fine. Got 4 posts out last night, 96 to go.

I also got fristrated and fabricated my own. Got the cylinder from SurplusCenter and the link ends from a local farm supply store. I don't have a check valve on my setup either, but it works fine. Total cost was under $100.

You may try Intergrated Engineering, They have top'n'tilt kits.

I'm trying to learn something here. I don't know if the breather tube is open or runs to the manifold. I also don't know if 'valve seals' seal the valve stems to prevent oil going down the valve guides. I have cured a number of serious smokers by replacing those valve stem seals on mid-60's Ford trucks. Serious blow-by wasn't a problem for those engines though.

If I were doing it I'd look for a large buried rock face and put a pit over it. That forces water to stay closer to the surface so more evapourates and also to travel further through soil before it enters the water table. Typical pit construction is cement blocks turned sideways and a similar central chamber topped with a slab or paving stones. The pit is filled with stone, untreated building paper is placed over the stone and then it's covered over. The soil firms up before the paper deteriorates. For high water tables and no rock faces, leech-lines take more area but require less depth. Some types of trees can help evapouration with pits but usually not leech lines.

Regs can be a pain. I figure that I live here and I'm the one who has a stake in the environment. Regs tend to be standards for the worst cases of irresponsibility rather than guides for solving particular problems in particular places--still they do have some teeth. The inspector for our new septic system was also going to a place near here. Rumor has it that somebody with a partially built a system without taking out a permit first and then called for an inspection. I'll eventually hear how it turned out. Even if the system is up to spec I don't suppose the owner is going to be a very happy camper.

I do use my scraper for shallow excavations and for turning compost. I also spread the last load of gravel almost entirely with the scraper (I do have a hydraulic top-link). The loader gets used as well but the scraper does most of the work. I go back and forth between them. Most people develop their own style and ways of doing things after some practice and you'll likely have yours as well. However, scrapers may take longer to get the hang of than loaders. Almost everybody mucks up a few practice areas.
