I agree with you 100% and will add that you are damn right about being arrogant. I could care less what color tractor you own. Your words to Mow are completely uncalled for. I think you might want to reconsider them and consider an apology to Mow. I guess this thread is on its way to the "Pointless & Hostile" section.

If I was doing it, I think I'd test the tractor's system relief valve without the loader in the system. But then I have a procedure and specs for my tractor, and the work shouldn't be done w/o knowing the work and safety procedures. I'd get the system pressure spec from a dealer.

If the test were done and it passed, I'd do pressure tests on each work port of the loader valve. It'd be good to know the relief pressure spec for the particular loader on that tractor, but it may be less than the system pressure spec. The loader valve specs for Ford CUT's range from 1200 psi to 2050 psi. If one or more work port pressures are low then the valve likely has a problem and the cylinders may not need to go for repair.

I don't think I'd fool much with the valve assembly unless I had a parts drawing and some background in hydraulics (The JD FOS-hydraulics manual is a decent introduction). A typical valve assembly contains about 40 parts.

I tend to cut down any big bumps with the rear cutter before starting leveling work. What happens when going forward is that the box drops when the front wheels go over a bump and it tends to gouge ahead of the bump unless the box is held high with the 3ph. Then the box lifts when the front wheels go over the bump so that the blade is cutting air when it's over the bump. Trying to lower the blade with the 3ph at just the right time never has worked for me.

I tend to think of the top-link as adjusting how fast the box fills. I just sit the box on the ground and give the 3ph plenty of float. For long grades I keep it fairly extended so the box is filled about where I want to dump it. If I want to cut down a grade, I start with the link short at the top and lengthen it as I go down the grade. If there's a moderate bump in the grade, I shorten the link as I go over the bump. The reverse works for making grades steeper and for filling dips.

I don't use scarifiers for most grading work (the soil is sandy here). I may want a hard surface that doesn't cut too fast because having to dump in the middle of a grade creates a lot of extra work. In addition, usually you don't want the scarifiers to cut below the finished grade surface for drives etc. I use them for cutting sod and for short shallow excavations.

An L-2800 would be a more accurate comparison as far as price and features altough it to has more horsepower then the 790 but it is over a grand less then the 7800 and several thousand less then the 2910.

Don't know if they can get all the changes done by this fall for spring delivery! We sent them back home with a whole bunch of things to consider. They are trying hard to get them out as they know the styling is dated as much as the tractors are still very workable.

That is a awesome idea. If you look at the big cable layers you'd have the thought of how to do.

First you need to rig a feed tube to the back side of the subsoiler to get the cabe to the bottom. You can decide how to carry the cable or to feed it.

I would make a dry run to the project to check for obstructions (BFR's, stumps, etc) if you are happy with the depth make the real run and lay the cable feeding it down the tube to start. It will self feed after a few feet.

If you just want to tinker at splitting wood get the remote. If you need to be serious about splitting wood go the power beyond route. If you are very serious about wood 20+ standard cords get a complete seperate unit.

My remotes will operate my splitter but it is painfully slow (not enough flow, volume) to operate a cylinder of any size. the power beyond is 3X better and the cycle times are greatly improved.

I have used the pto screw splitters (1 time and only for a couple of hours) and would never use one again. I would not let my boys with in 25 foot of the thing when I saw how it worked. They are the most dangerous things I have ever encountered.

My splitter is built so I can add a little diesel engine, a 22+gpm pump and a 5X24 cylinder. But I may never do that because the powerbeyond does a great job. BUT I may come across a smokin deal...

johnathan..thanks for the insightful update. I've been back and forth on MMM vs 3ph RM (and side or rear dischg). You helped my decision to go RM. Now to decide Woods, Landpride or Sitrex. All have hi lift blades. LandPride appears to have a poor paint job...rust on new bodies...but dealer says units have held up "best" in his experience. I'll also have FEL and brush hoggin to do too so a MMM might be in the way.
