Kevin, Scott makes a good point. If you do not mind working on it a little this may be a good tractor. The price is a lot less than a dealer price but with the dealer price you have someone to yell at, 2-3 year warranty, and some else to work on it for you. For the next 2-3 years repairs are not your problem. That I think is the biggest difference.

Denwood, in the early days of the GST there were only certain models that had independent PTO. Today they all do as well as 12 speeds so you can find the right speed easier. No way can a gst cycle full bucket as fast as a hydro with out the clutch but it sure does beat a non shuttle tractor.

I had a 5ft for my 30 HP 790 and it work well,Now when I hook to my 5205 it's a bit small but I can tilt it to where the teeth are digging full depht with out even knowing it's bach there. I would think a 4 ft would do you well.

better go with R-1 tires for doing field work, trying to pull a 700lb disk will have you in a spin .

I don't mind sharing that info at all.
And BTW, I love this tractor and will be glad when it gets "broke in" so it can really go to work. Only have 1.5 hours on it!

I purchased this unit from Lowe Tractor & equipment in Henderson, TX. These guys are great to deal with and treated me very professionally. I'd buy from them again.

PS - they even delivered it to me and I'm about 40 miles away from their place.

I don't really care what it is if it has over drive which all cars now days do it is junk. Then it will also cost about 3600 if you are lucky to get it rebuilt. Manual tranny is the way to go.

more than likely removing shims will lower the relief pressure so you would want to add shims to increase the pressure.

What you want to do to adjust the relief valve with out a gauge is loosen the jam nut and turn the threaded rod 1/16 to 1/8" of a turn at a time test the strength of the loader with a pre weighed object of some sort but since you do not have a manual for the loader you do not know what the rated capacity is. So it will Be a judgment call, continue to adjust the rod in or clock wise until desired performance is achieved. Make sure you only turn in small increments then test turn and test turn and test ect. If you turn it in too much you can damage the whole hyd. sys.

Hobart and Miller have a decent web site which lists dealers who also perform service and warranty repairs. If a dealer is also listed as a repair site, they will take on the repair of a Hobart/Miller welder.

Miller and Hobart appear to be the same company since they have the same business address.

That Hobart 180 is a decent machine and, once it is set up, is easier to use than a stick welder. Put a 10# spool of wire in it and weld for hours.

I have the 4110 HST and came up with following from my manual:
3 front end
2 power steering
2 brake pedal
The manual also shows cruise control and park brake fittings which I don't have.
In talking to the service guy, he says do not fill the tie rod fittings until you see grease ooze...only fill until you see the little rubber boots swell. And the axil pivot pin fitting does not ooze...fill to resistance.

Mike, I use a set of 4" pump pliers, works handy. I have basicly the same engine in my 4700, it is a hard place too get to.

I'm looking for a service manual for a 416 cat 5PC03328. I have a intermittent problem that once in a while either idling or operating the engine stalls. I put it in neutral, turn the key off then start it up and it could be fine for days or maybe just minutes. i checked the fuel, filter for water etc. all is fine. I also took the side console apart while it was running and checked for loose connections, all was ok.

On mid size and larger tractors, front weights are very common. Many are called suitcase weights, are made of cast iron and have a handle cast in. Brackets on the front of tractors allow easy addition or removal of these weights. you may be able to fabricate a bracket and purchase used weights from any ag dealer to hang on when you need them.
As far as fluid is concerned, I don't like it much at all. Yes it is easy and adds necessary weight. But it is a mess if you get a leak or use calcium which rusts the wheel. Where I live calcium is the standard and one local dealer offers weights or calcium as options for the same price. I believe you do get a bit more weight with the fluid than with the max number of weights.
Foam filling is excellent for the smaller tires as it is rather expensive. It is quite heavy and eliminates all flats. I would especially reccomend it for the front tires of tractors with loaders. Mine as well as some friends always seem to get leaks. Maybe because we are always scooping into areas with sharp thorns or nails. Even a tire that looks fine sitting may have too little air when a load is lifted. Never having to worry about that again is so nice. As far as wearing out, unless you have a paved drive that you insist on turning sharply while 4x4 is engaged, or you just run a huge number of hours on a paved surface, you should have no problem with a quality tire. I have machines with over 1000 hours on the original tires that still have 75% tread. Turf tires don't have as much to begin with but I have never worn out a set on any of my mowers. I have no pavement which helps.

There are several things I look for in judging what tractor to buy. Loader BREAKOUT force, Loader detaching, and hydrostatic transmission operation.
I could care less if one brand lists a loader lift CAPACITY 150 lbs more than the other. BREAKOUT says when the loader arm stops moving up and you can no longer lift more no matter how much weight you hang on the back. I almost always lift things that max out the hydraulics and wish I had just a little more capacity.

When the loader is removed from the tractor, do the hydraulic control valves stay on the tractor or do they go with the loader. They better stay to operate other attachments like a blade or snowblower. Kubota has been notorious for stupidity with this but I believe they may have changed some of the tractors recently.

The hydro tranny needs to stop quickly if you pop your foot off in a panic situation. New Holland is the only one I found unacceptable. Also why have individual brake pedals if they are on the same side as the hydro pedal. They need to be on the opposite side so you can push the hydro and one brake to steer sharply. On the same side they can only be used easily when the cruise control is on, a time when it is less likely to be needed.

If you have never driven a tractor with a hydrostatic transmission, try one out. Any dealer will let you demo one at your house. I will never buy a gear drive unless it is so cheap, I know I will be able to sell it and make a few bucks immediatly. Don't let anyone tell you don't need a hydro. I'd take a used hydro over a new gear for the same price anyday.

I have been comparing all compacts and will probably go with john deere. I like the new holland very much but its hydro is just unexceptable to me. I only use hydros and have driven many brands. To me it is one of the important features. If you are driving along and a panic situation arises (you see a large rock, edge of bank, child runs out), you need to stop very quickly. I recently tested a NH. When driving along pop your foot off the hydro. NH coasts to a stop very gently. JD and Kubota stop as all hydros I have experienced do. You feel it. It doesn't throw you over the steering wheel, but its quick and powerful. The salesman said customers like to slow down gently. Fine- gently let up on the hydro. Also why have individual brakes on the same side as the hydro- VERY DUMB. The only way to really use them is when cruise control is on. The loader BREAK OUT is the other key factor. Rated lift is irrelevant, you can always add more weight to the back. Breakout is when the loader stops moving up and we all lift as much as possible, more than rated.

I took delivery of a tz24da recently with the fel and 60''mmm and though it wasn't the easiest task I was able to take the fel off with no problem. I just followed the owners manual instructions. There didn't seem to be any interference with the mmm.
