Andy, be careful. I would question the 250 hours on a tractor that is 12 years old. That works out to a little over 20 hours a year, approx. That would be great if it is the case, but sounds like it might be 250 hours since a rebuild, which is not a bad thing, as long as it was done right. As for power, there will be plenty of it there. As for price, get it from Art W. Good luck!

If the price is right; I would prefer the 4115. More hp, longer wheel base and frame. I am sure you will be very happy with either.

Nothing happens when I try to start the blade on my 2135. The switch meters out OK.<br>
It started doing this this intermittently, but if I cycled it enough times the blade would eventually start and run fine. Now I've spent half the day trying it with no success. Read the forum and came across two similar posts - one said to rap the module behind the switch and jumper the clutch straight to the battery. Neither helped. The other talked about setting gaps in the clutch while disassembled. I'm not that brave yet. <br>
Fuses are good. Battery voltage while running is just over 12 volts. Tried rotating pulley by hand a little at a time to find a sweet spot. Nothing. <br>
When jumpering, does it make a difference on polarity? If so, which to which? <br>
Ideas, anyone?<br>

790 is bare-bones and rugged, but has weaker hydraulics and is manual shift only. But is is more of a "tractor" with a dual stage clutch.

4110/15 is smaller and has less HP but can lift more and has more creature comforts like the shifter for the manual trans is right on your left, not tucked under your legs and also has more gears...also has hydro option which is nice.

I personally went for the 4110 gear (a rare breed...all going to hydro now) over the 790 and couldn't be happier. I got tired of fighting on the floor with my last tractor's shifter and like the semi-kinda-shuttle-like way the 4110 shifts. Plus I got a good deal ($11,500) and the 790 was still near $15. I just wish my 4110 had one thing the 790 has...the dual stage clutch so you can stop while still keeping 3PH going.

For the retrofit, It sounds like Grinders idea is teh best option so far. But wouldn't there be freezing in the trough that would still be a problem? If so, some heat tape made for gutters might solve it if a problem developes.<br>

John, I hate to be the messenger of bad news but this was one of the big weak links in this tractor. I had a 154 Lo Boy for 10 years that was given to me by my father as a basket case for the very reason you post here and had to replace the pto shaft. That was about 10 years ago and it cost me over $250 for the shaft which is a special hardened steel shaft. The pto clutch drum assembly on the shaft as well as the shaft are now obsolete parts and only stock left on dealer shelves (if any) is left. The problem as I recall was that the drive belt pulley on the pto shaft would work back and forth on the key way and set screw holding it in place on the shaft. The first tell tale signs were the knocking noise at idle and eventually the pulley would strip out the key way and key. Same thing applied to the pto clutch drum assy. only the clutch plate ears would eat into the pto clutch drum and render is useless. I was very lucky and found a new pto shaft and the clutch drum was not too far gone. In the event you cannot find a servicable pto shaft, you can take the shaft to a GOOD machine shop and have them will the key way slot by welding it with material and remachining the the key way slot. The problem with doing this is the the heat of welding the shaft tends to cause it to warp and it must then be straightened. This can be an expensive proposition. If you can get this done and the drive belt pulley is not damaged too; I used Locktite to secure the pulley key way key and the set screw. I tightened the set screw as much as I dared without striping it out. After this you must be VERY careful to engage the pto clutch by VERY SLOOOOOOOOOWLY pulling out the pto clutch engagement rod so as to VERY gradually bring the pto up to speed at the lowest possible rpm. This wears on the clutch plates a bit but they are MUCH cheaper than the other parts. Even after I performed all of these measures by installing new parts and babied the pto; the shaft was again knocking and drive belt pulley was looose on the key way as well as the set screw loose in short order. I retightened and re Locktited the set screw a few times which would last until you hit a rock or other debry and the shock load would loosen it again. Just a really poor design. I eventually traded my 154 Lo Boy for a Kubota L245. The 154 was a great little tractor and served me well for the 10 years I had it but this was a fatal flaw and one of the primary reasons they were discontinued. During the 10 years I owned the 154, I must have spent over $4,000 in parts and labor to maintain it. When the opportunity for the Kubota L245 came along, I jumped on it as more and more parts for the 154 were becoming obsolete and unavailable each year not to mention, much more expensive for the parts still available. Sorry to hear about your problems and hope this helps you out. Hope you can get her up and running but you may want to look into selling or trading up to a newer tractor unless you want to keep it for restoration.

Ken, any hydro can out work a gear in loader work. I believe that it might be a problem with how to work a hydro properly. I have farmers that won't give up there old hydro's for a new shuttle shift with cab as they tear up what they are working on to much.

I'm not sure if brands other than Deere offer a 3pt. weight box option for their front loaders. In most cases it seemed to make more sense to me to put the weight box money toward a box scraper, then you have your rear ballast plus a useable piece of equipment. Enjoy your day. Frank.

The swapping of hoses idea was the two cylinder hoses to the bucket for the two going to the lift. They are in the centre of the valve assembly. There would be one hose at one end for the pressure line and one or two hoses at the other end for the return. Those aren't swapped and would do damage if they were. Sounds like swapping may be unnecessary though.

There is a possibility if the valve is a single return hose type. In many setups, that type of valve puts the cylinder exhaust oil when the loader is operated into the line going to the 3ph. If the 3ph were in lift mode when the loader is operated it the load would be the the combined weight in the loader and on teh 3ph. A heavy implement on the 3ph would definitely limit loader power. Some valves of this type aren't rated for that type use and could be damaged if they were operated at the same time as a heavy 3ph lift.

Sounds like you found the loader valve relief and maybe adjustment isn't required. I wouldn't worry about draining oil for the loader. Normal operation does a pretty good job of it.
