Now where getting somewhere, that is closer, but ours are really baggy, in fact they are designed to go over a standard construction-type hardhat. It has a large plastic window in the front and hangs down onto your shoulders.

Best anyone can remember they come in a box of 144 pcs. for about $50 a box.

Hardwood, From what the JD dealer told me, was for that very reason, "noise" they were recommending the Firebird brand because it was constructed with plywood panels integrated in with the fiberglass canopy, the canopy has a hump where it fits over the ROPS and looks very similar to the one in your pic's with the exception that there is a rise or hump to the rear of the canopy where it fits over the ROPS. It has two mounting extensions which connects to the side of the ROPS as does the other canopies and the canopy then is bolted from the top through the mounting extensions. Work lights can be installed and they recommend using stock Deere work lights mounted below the front of the canopy to allow for vertical adjusting of the lighting when needed. The wiring attaches to the tractor harness and then the lights are controlled via the console light switch without having to use an additional light switch, Just seen a pic of the canopy on the manufactures brouchure, haven't seen one on a tractor yet.

I don't understand the problem Tom, my wife has called my shop out back the "Toy Box" since day one, it's one of the few things she's right about, and I agree, it is my Toy Box. LOL.

But then I've always called 'em as I sees em', my boat was called "Bikini Bait", it was, and it worked.

Randy, if the horses were pulled out of that field for a week I would agree with you. I also agree that it is pretty unlikely that the horses will eat the wilted & dying plants.

However, my experience has always been that horses are intelligent, curious animals. If you are nearby they will usually come to see what you are doing, if they see you near a fence line and come to you they will often spot the lush long grass along the fence and start eating it.

We also use a LOT of Roundup, Wrangler, Sythe, etc., and in the application guide they give me when I renewed my license this spring it makes the following quote "It has a low acute toxicity to mammals (LD 5O: oral = 4,300/dermal = 5,300) but is an eye, nose, throat, and skin irritant." This is about the best legalese statement I have seen in a while, in english it basically says "It isn't fatally poisonous to mammals very often." Our instructor however did warn that horses, like humans, do occasionally have allergic reactions to substances like this.

I agree with kyvette & chipaz that fuses are to protect circuits and a shorted circuit is not the only reason a fuse will blow. Excessive current draw from whatever component is in that circuit can and will pop a fuse and there may be absolutly nothing wrong with any of the wiring or insulation. House type circuit breakers prove that daily.<br>

I suspect something in that circuit is drawing excessive current when at operating temperature, especially since it's been suggested that it has occured after using the machine for several hours.<br>

I'm not defending NH's stance in suggesting a circuit breaker to replace a fuse in a circuit but I imagine they have researched it enough to believe it is not caused by a short or wiring problem and they have determined that it is probably excessive current draw from some component.<br>

Therefore, it is likely more "cost effective" at least from from their standpoint, to install a circuit breaker than it would be to re-design, re-engineer and then replace whatever component is causing the high current draw.<br>
<br>
Bottom line is...document your problems along with when and where they happen and what you had to do to get back running. Install or have your dealer install whatever NH suggests. (this gives you proof they know they have a problem of some kind) Then if you continue have a problem down the road, you MIGHT have a leg to stand on.<br>

Millers, I suspect the stuff you saw "turn to slurpy or even freeze" was on the windshield, not in the jug.

The anti-freeze component in WW fluid is alcohol, even at VERY low temeratures it evapourates very rapidly, leaving mostly water behind, it is this that I think you saw slush up.

We use to use a water/alcohol blend in 55 gal. drums for ballast plowing, it never got anywhere near slushing up and I suspect it gets a little colder here in Ontario than it does in WV.

Well I finally rolled to 50 hours and am getting ready to run down to the dealer to get all the filters and engine oil. Is there anything I should be aware of while doing the filter/oil changes besides of what is in the manual? Is there much oil that comes out when changing the filters?<br>
Any pointers would be appreciated...

I understand what you're saying. The 3 pt hitch lever is much stiffer on the TC40 I own, than other tractors I've used in the past. When I purchased my TC40, that was the first thing I noticed was the stiffness of the lever. My brother's TC40 lever is even stiffer. I used WD40 and other lubes and kept working the lever, it did ease up some. I also purchased a TC55, and you can move the 3 pt hitch control lever with 2 fingers with little effort. Try working the lever and spraying with silicon spray or WD40 at the base.

This is an old thread I would like to revive. I am experiencing a sticky HST pedal on my TZ24DA with 21 hours. I don't notice it during operations like mowing. It seems to be worse when the tractor is hot and while driving. I let off the forward pedal and the tractor continues to move forward, slowly the HST pedal will return to normal. A slight tap on the reverse pedal will return the forward pedal. The same senerio will happen when traveling in reverse. I would like to hear your suggestions before I take this to the dealer.

I had some of those twilight fuses on my old Ford. The lighting circuits were intermittent. I noticed the problem when I accidentally tested both sides of a fuse holder and noticed it had voltage on only one side. The fuse itself tested good. Burnished the holder contacts and fuse ends and it hasn't done it since.

My old Ford also had factory paint in the alternator output terminal 15 years later. I believe that cleaning off shortened up the recharge times. All sorts of twilight things can happen. Makes life interesting--maybe.

That sounds like decent theory. None of the explanations sounds like a problem or damage to the machine so I hope that makes everybody feel better.

The slow crank thing did seem to happen on my riding mower (air-cooled gas engine). It doesn't do it much now since I repaired a seriously corroded battery terminal. The battery still is a dog. My wife blew a head gasket last summer due to a slow rad hose leak and not watching the gauge. I was along for a ride once and didn't recognize the sound of boiling in the water jackets after she turned it off. It didn't overflow or blow a hose but the coolant was low, and it probably sat long enough to cool down before it was started again. I'm pretty sure I remember '50's 6V cars cranked slow if they were shut down hot and then restarted again. But, these weren't tractor diesel engines and this explanation sounds like a better one.

I suspect the HST "appears" weaker than the GST or FST because it is designed to go into bypass mode before the engine really starts to lug down, whereas with a gear model, the operator is free to push the machine until it stalls out. Been there. Done that.

Art, thanks for digging out all the info for us. I had'nt given the three stage gear trans behind the hydro unit much thought, but you're right, using low range in the newer three speed tannys does give the hydro unit lots more mechanical advantage than the older two range systems. A prime example was in the "20" series Deere combines which had a hydro ahead of a four speed transmission. If you had a wet fall harvesting in the mud it wasn't hard to get the hydro fluid temperature warning light to come on running in third gear, but droping back to second gear let the hydro spin faster taking lots of stress off of it. You're dead right on the second part of your post in that hydro tractors serve two main purposes, the greater of the two being a PTO tractor where the majority of your tractors power is being consumed by the PTO driven unit with the tractive part of the power being of lesser need. Second, they are a transmission of convenience where absolute fuel effeciency is not an important factor. I do run the wife's lawn tractor now and then and it is pretty neat to have that infinite speed range. With proper use and maintenence hydro units have a reputation of nearly never wearing out. So it all boils down to what anyones personal preferences for ease of operation or how important absolute fuel effecincys really are. My sermon for the day. Frank.

Spraying on a "calm day" is fine to apply your product,
but if you want it to last, you should brush it in.
The brush will push your product into the wood grain and
force the penatration as opposed to laying on the surface.
Spray only looks good for a couple of years,if you brush
it you should get 5-7 yrs.
pressure wash everything first,let it dry two or three days.
Spray it till it runs down the wall and then push it in
with a high quality 5-6" brush.
Ask Sherwin Williams.
Unless your real comfortable on the roof,stay off it.

Im thinking hard to get a Jinma 284 to help with the chores around our house. One of the chores is to park a 2 horse slant trailer near our barn, the tricky part is it must be moved down a short but steep loose dirt road. Currently I use our 2x4 Durango to park it but I really need a 4x4 to get it back up the hill. Could I somehow rig up a ball hitch on the three point and use it to move the empty trailer up and down the hill? The trailer weighs about 2700lb and has a couple hundred lbs of tonge weight when empty.<br>

What do you guys think, will the Jinma 284 handle this or is it too wimpy?<br>

I know this is an old post but my bx2200 did the same thing. I can just about guarantee it's the 20A fuse in the fuse block. My fuse was good but it must have had just emough corrosion that it wasn't making a good contact. This fuse control the electric fuel shutoff. If you turn the key it will fire up but the second you release the key to the run not start position it will die. if it's not the fuse it is the electric fuel shut off control. Old post but this guy had the problem, I had the problem and it may be something soon to be common on aging bx2200's.

It's no spring chicken as I believe it was built in the 60's but not sure as it may have had it's start a decade earlier. Used or new parts should be available either thru your deere dealer or most any dealer for the knotters as they were all deering knotters back then. Consistant string is the most important part for good tying.

Depending on condition it should be about 1500 for a high and 500 for a bent up one. A grand on a good straight one any day!
