It seemed odd to me that a cubic foot could hold over 7 gallons of water, but after some consideration it makes sense. We get 4 gallon cases of liquids from time to time and the cases are about a cubic foot in size. There's a lot of wasted space in those boxes. The gallon jugs are each about 6" in diameter and the tops are tapered with a molded handle. I'm sure it would take 3 more gallons to fill the wasted volume in that one cubic foot box.

Randy, a herbicide is a good idea, certtainly the fastest & easiest, but the original post ruled that option out because of a concern with horses grazing in that field.

That is why we were exploring 'mechanical' alternatives.

A few years back we did some experimenting with 'home-brewed' herbicides to try to control the vegetation alongside some of the cottage country roads we maintain. We couldn't really use 'chemicals' both because from a practical standpoint a lot of it would be in the lake after the next rain, but also because the cottagers would never tolerate it.

One of the most successful 'brews' was a mixture of vinegar, salt and dishwashing detergent, we used the strong vinegar used for pickling. It worked well, but required repeated applications and could not be applied if rain or even heavy night-time dew was forecast in the following few days.

It sure was cheap though.

It�s actually a rather �slick� little mechanism, and much more difficult to try to explain than it is to operate. I�ll have to check my photo archives at home, to see if I have any pics.

The machine is only showing 200 hours and the belt looks new and is tight. No noises. There is an equipment repair shop in town and I asked him about it and he said if the light bulb on the indicator panel is burnt out that could cause it not to charge. He said it acts as a "resister" on some of the kubota's?? I am stuck at work and dying to find out if this is it. The owner's manual says if it's NOT charging properly the indicatioor light will come on. Well....it's not charging properly and the indicator light is NOT on so I bet there is a god shot it's a 99 cent bulb and not a $200 alternator. I'll post the results.

Deere probably only made them for the models that are popular for rental, and then only when some rental outfit requested them. Regardless, at least for the mid-frame JD machines the rental upgrade kit has been discontinued, so if anyone wants one you should order it ASAP.

Art, that's interesting. I have found mine moves slowly in the 1/4" position, but doen't work in increments. It just moves slowly. Is the system designed to move in increments, even if the control lever is held in the first incremental position? I've got about 60hrs worth of fussing with this 1/4" valve and not sure I have it right yet.

I just wanted to comment about fuses. Most of you, I am sure, realize the purpose of a fuse. Fuses are designed to protect the electrical circuity. The same goes for circuit breakers. Fuses and circuit breakers operate (open up) for one of two reasons: a defective or fatigued device or too much current flow (referred to as fault current) in the circuit they are protecting.

Relating to the original problem of a 10 amp fuse blowning, replacing the fuse with a higher rating or installing a circuit breaker only masks the problem, it doesn't cure the problem. There is something beyond the fuse that is causing too much current flow in the circuit.

I would suspect a defective component in the circuit or possibly a wire with worn insulation. If a wire with worn or damaged insulation (that is connected to the positive side of the battery) makes contact with a chassis ground, there goes the fuse. Could humidity cause the problem as some have suggested? I don't know, however, humidity means moisture and moisture is a conductor of electricity.

Hope this provides some insight.

I unscrewed the threaded rod you are talking about with the lock ing nut. It contained a valve with an internal spring. I cleaned this and put it back in and noticed MORE power, but the loader still won't go up with its bucket over half full of gravel. It does however lift the front end now, and would'nt before I did this.

I need to do more tweaking.

Grasgod, two points, first, the weights shouldn't come out past the wheel, get in touch with DRankin and see if he can send you a pic. of how he did his. Secondly, if you can pop a tire of a rim, there is something funny, there is no way a properly inflated tire should be able to be knocked off the rim with anything short of a hand grenade.

Check your four wheel drive lever and move to two wheel drive. Some times you might get some binding or gear wind-up which might be holding it.

I prefer that the customers come in and go over all pieces of the sale. Even with that done there are still questions that arise as to the proper hook-up and the operation of the equipment. Many initial repairs are from the lack of proper instructions of operation or forgotten.
