Bob, I did the same thing you did regarding the research and I arrived at the same conclusions as yourself. I haven't purchased the tractor yet and I'm still undecided between the 4300 or 4400. Is the extra thousand bucks worth the 3hp? I did however find a dealership willing to deal on the tractor which is saving me some money...maybe I could use the savings to buy the the extra hp. For the 4300HST/MFWD w/ 430 loader I started out with a quote of about $23500, and $6500 for the 47 backhoe. I got a quote from another dealer this weekend of $19900 and $5800 respectively. This is good as the first quote was a bit outside my budget and I really wanted this particular set-up. I should be ready to buy toward the end of this year or early 2000. Enjoy your tractor and let me know how things are going for you...I just may opt for that 4400!

I have a JD4200 tractor and from day 1, i noticed that the 3pt hitch hisses when lifting. This is my first tractor and I was wondering if this was normal. The fluid level is fine and it lifts the implements without any problem. Just wondering if I have a problem.<br>Thanks <br>

I recently bought a Ford 1500 4wd with the loader and am very happy with it. What kind of work are you doing with it? I can tell you that I work mine in a hilly woodlot with unimproved roads and have only had it out of 4wd maybe twice.<br>Whenever I start to think that maybe 2wd might work in a particular situation I am almost always wrong. Unimproved, loose gravel roads, going uphill even without a load have all required 4wd. I have done quite a bit of work with this tractor including cutting a road across a slope, I know I would not have been able to do it with the 2wd version. If you are mowing or using the tractor mostly on fairly level terrain the 2wd should work. One thing, the PTO is dependent and clutches with the transmission, this will affect how you work with your impliments, if you are going to mow you will need an overriding PTO adapter to allow the blade to freewheel past stopped or idling PTO shaft.<br>Oaktree has a picture of my tractor posted at his site:<br>http://www.springfieldbiz.com/oaktree/fordtractor.htm<br>Good Luck<br>Kim

I sold several of these tractors new, they are very good units. Any Agco White dealer should be able to get you parts. Also Bolens and late model M-F are Iseki. Some of the White/Iseki models are 2-32,2-35,FB16,FB21,FB37,FB43. Hope this helps. Warren

I'm not knowledgeable on Kubotas, so I can't help you there. But most compacts are similar regardless of brand. It sounds to me like you need at least 35 HP, and 45 would be a better figure. The reason is more for the overall size of tractor than the horsepower. In other words, you need a small farm tractor. As you have noticed, the small farm tractors and the large compact tractors overlap in price and in size, but the farm tractors tend to be much heavier built throughout. <br> Don't get me wrong....You can do the work with a compact. It won't hurt the compact tractor. It just takes a lot longer to do the same job when it comes to tillage or heavy work. They all mow, drill post holes, carry a few hundred pounds in the loader, and that sort of thing at the same rate. My 336D did the same thing this weekend. On mine it turned out to be a loose pin where the hand lever attaches to the shaft. A five-minute fix for me...Hope you are so lucky. I've heard that some need a new retaining clip where the shaft enters the transmission housing and slides a collar back and forth to engage/disengage 4wd. From what I have been told, the work can be done simply by removing an inspection cover - but I haven't had the need to try it. <br> Roger

I have a JD 4400 HST with 430 loader and 47 hoe. My question is regarding the hoe's stabilizer 'feet'. I find in the JD manual, you can buy optional pads for use on blacktop surface, etc. However, all of my digging will be in dirt. With the 'feet' in the 'as delivered' position, 'grip' in dirt appears to be marginal. I have also read about reversing them. They look more substantial for dirt when reversed but the pin hole is quite a bit off center, Has anyone had experience with this. I have considered adding 'teeth' like from angle iron pieces bolted thru the existing bolt holes for the optional 'driveway pads'. Thanks in advance, Bob

Mark,<br>In my opinion, both are good tractors. the kubota is far more bang for the buck.<br>The Kubota has a Shuttle, better instrumentation, longer wheelbase, easier on/off the machine. The Green one, as usual, is more stripped down w/no shuttle, and probably more money Jim

I have had a 4100 gear with a loader for about a year now. I have had no problems, and have no complaints! I have a 5' land pride rear blade. I also have a 5' finishing mower which is a 500# implement and have no problems. The 4100 has a 3pt. capacity of around 900# (I think), so you should be able to put on just about anything. After having this for a year, I have no regrets about buying it. I just wish all of the attachments were not so expensive.<br> As far as the PTO is concerned, if you go to a dealer to look at the tractor, look under the seet. There is a safety switch under it for the PTO. You just pull up the plunger and move a wire support to hold the seat off the switch.<br><br>Good luck!

I have one with a two stage blower and three point mower for 6500. the tractor has 1600 hours on it and it is four wheel drive with turf tires. general tractor condition is a 8 paint is a 5 as it is faded.

Rutted post logging;I had a similiar deal in an open corn field after a combine wallowed though a wet fall harvest leaving behind long ruts. The next spring I hired a nearby farmer to deep chisel plow,disc and cultipack[grooved cast-iron wheels on an axle] and then plant oats with clover and timothy hay.Instead of oats some farmers plant a pea that they chop for silage-same difference.If the`re a lot of roots you may need a Caterpiller to run a subsoiler[ a really deep chisel] to pull the roots up . The farmer had a large 4 wheel tractor with a 20ft chisel plow but a narrower one should work fine. Some jobs are just too heavy for a small tractor.
