Petushead, none of these machines are perfect. On the JD 4310 you mention the wires and hydraulic lines are tucked pretty high up underneath, but sticks can still get wedged in there and tear a harness. It's been reported a couple of times here. JD sells a Rental Upgrade Kit that has skid plates to further protect that area. I'm in the process of installing those plates on my 4310 and they really should bulletproof that area. All the electronics on the 4310 mean more wires, and more wires means more exposure to that sort of damage than the B2910 probably has. I have the right plate on, but had to order new step mounts to complete the job on the left side (bent when I hit a stump). When done I'll post some pictures and a review.

I find it interesting that the TR3 could be so heavy, the one I tried seemed to be a LOT less than that.

I use a Rhino HB 84" (7' wide) box blade, according to the manufacturer it weigh 1068 pounds, and there's a LOT of steel in it.

The TR3 seems to be about 25' of frame and two sets of scarifiers, one plate-type set horizontally and one tooth-type set vertically, a hitch and some big gauge wheels. My steel data book says if it is made of 1/4" wall, 3"x3" tubing (not angle) it would be about 6 pounds per foot, at 25' that would be about 150 pounds for the frame, even if all the other componenets weighed that much again it would only 300 pounds, not 900.

As for scarifier penetration, that is a function of two things, first is force, weight pushing down and power pushing it through the soil, the second is resistance, the ability of the soil to resist penetration.

Since the TR3 is MUCH lighter than my box blade, and it has 10 shanks instead of the 8 on my box blade it will naturally have a MUCH harder time to penetrate tough soil.

Now, having said all of that, don't misinterpret what I'm saying, the TR3 would probably be one of my first picks if I was maintaining a horse riding area. The problems and goals are different when you are talking about road or driveway construction. It is a costly piece of equipment, but it appears to be well thought out and made. It's just not, IMHO, a 'be all and end all Swiss Army knife' it's made out to be.

My top and tilt came via Gearmore and though it was spec'd for my 4115 it took quite a bit of fiddling to get it right.

If I had OEM available I would go that way.

A float function on the top-link of a 3PTH would be useful for any implement which extends back from the tractor by much and which you want to follow an uneven surface.

Doing things like dragging an implement like harrows over an undulating surface. This would be useful when using it on a gravel road for instance, without a top-link you would have no way to lift it for travel, but then it would prevent the implement from rotating on the lower links when you want it to in order to follow the surface. This could also be useful on something like a bush-hog, to allow it to flex with the terrain instead of overloading the hitch.

Tom, the float on the B/H is useful for things like cleaning off the bottom of a trench for footings. Once you have reached the proper depth you no longer want to affect depth, just clean it out, by putting the bucket bottom flat to the trench bottom and putting the boom in float position it will follow the trench perfectly regardless of the arc of the boom scraping the bottom clean easily.

After spending $500 for the Mosquito Magnet, and after 2 positionings to try to make it more effective, there were still a few mosquitos attacking me while sitting around the pool. My wife brought out a can of "Off" to spray around the area. I repeated a comment to her from this thread - that she could have bought a truckload of "Off" for what we spent on this mosquito magnet. But my wife is undeterred. She thinks there must be something that needs adjusting - maybe we are out of the attractant - maybe another repositioning? :)

I just had mine delivered on Saturday. Didn't really play with it until Sunday so I can't really tell you what to look out for. With the FEL and bush-hog on the back though it's a long tractor. I'm very impressed with the turning radius though. I'll get some photos posted this week. As for the name I couldn't tell you where Boomer came from.

The 48" was not considered a vacuuming deck. There is a assisted unit avilable for it that uses a 5 horsepower Briggs to be sure that it works that is offered for 1299. There were no grass catchers offered for that model. Getting to that price you are close to being able to have a trailer unit that would be able to fit more mowers with just the purchase of the boot.

I recently brought a TZ24DA, but only have the 60" MMM. I got a 6.5' x 12' single axle trailer rated at GVW of 5000lbs. I also got the steel mesh drop down gate. I debated about going to a two axle trailer, but the smallest I could find was 16'. The trailer I got handles my tractor very well and the drop down gate is a great feature, the gate is removable.

I checked cars.com and was suprised at how expensive these trucks are on the used market. I heard the Tacomas and Tundras are not of the same quality as the T100. 9200 still seems like a lot for a private party purchase.

Most all hydraulic systems will have some drift. Depends on temperature, seal quality and wear, spool quality and wear, and rod condition. No system can be "perfecty" sealed against drift. It is good practice to store equipment so there isn't any pressure applied to the cylider seals, and that the rods are in the oil out of the elements.

I have recently purchased a Model 870 with only 245 hours.
I have used it 6 hours and everything seems good to me.

I don't know much about the features. Type transmission etc. Research indicates it's probably a 1990 model. I can't imagine where it has been to have such low hours, but they are believable considering it's condition.
Do you have access to any dealer brochures, etc, that I could buy?
