David - I guess I disagree a little with your first respondant to get a little more tractor than you think you need. I like small, because it makes a tractor more manuverable, less damaging to the soil, easier to find a place to park it, etc. 3 acres is not a heck of a lot of land, so I would not hesitate to stick with a 16 horsepower machine like the Kubota B7300 mentioned by Bird. A new one with loader will run about 11,500 - 12,000, and add another almost 2,000 for a mower. I have a 1700 which is similar, but with 17 horsepower and power steering. I have a 10 acre horse farm, and the convenience of small size greatly outweighs the few instances where I wish I had more power.<br>Good luck,<br>PaulB

You will find that the 22 in rear tire is somewhat of an odd ball size. That size is typically found on the grey market imports. The bar tread you have is probably a rice tire with real severe cleats. <br>Firestone is making a 22 in turf tire to fit this rim. Check with them.

Thanks Art. Yes, a tree fell on the origional bucket. The pins are new as the bucket, but the Zerks are missing at the bucket end. The backhoe had some zerks plugged up but it did not seem to be overly loose. (I used the machine for two days). The owner wants $8500 for the whole package.

The culprit is your mulching kit. It is only the fact that you are trying to mulch a larger quanity of grass than the system can handle at once. When you cut in reverse, it changes the flow of the system, allowing it to process it through faster. If you have an air-tunnel (high air flow type of deck) mower, I would question the use of a mulching kit, the two will be

According to the 1998 Farm equipment guide the 850 4wd were made from 1978-88 has a Yanmar engine rated at 22.2 PTO H.P., and weighs 3520 lbs. Chip, I recommend additional considerations with your search. I recently had an opportunity to pit my newly aquired Kubota B7300 w/loader and backhoe head to head against a JD855 in a 3 day emergengy

If you really want a tractor, you may want to consider a slightly smaller unit made by Kubota for a lower cost, and gain performance.

First , no it should be ok weight-wise since the majority of the weight of a sickle bar mower is behind the tractor on the 3pth. Second, don't try to use it for ANYTHING but what it was designed for, mowing hay. However tempting it may be, do not try to cut road-sides, ditches, hill-sides, etc. with it. After some 20+ years of landscaping I have seen COUNTLESS sickle-bars used this way, usually their life expectancy can be counted in hours after starting that kind of work. Lastly, I question the 4000lbs figure, I think you are under-estimating your machine's bulk, especially with cab & loader.........

Larry;<br> I have a JD 755 the predecssor of the 4100. Approximately the same size. I made a counter weight of about 900-1000 lbs. out of cement for the 3pth. easy to take off for mowing. I don't have any weight in the tires. I've heard putting on and taking off wheel weights are knuckle busters. If you need any more info. just e-mail me.
